현재 봉화군에서는 11농가가 약 3헥타르 규모에서 딸기를 재배하고 있으며, 이 중 9농가는 고설수경재배, 2농가는 토경재배 방식을 적용해 균일한 품질과 생산성을 확보하고 있다.

재배 품종은 소비자 선호도가 높은 ‘설향’이 주를 이루며, 큰 일교차와 청정 자연환경이 더해져 육질이 단단하고 당도가 높으며 향이 풍부한 것이 봉화산 딸기의 특징으로 꼽힌다.

특히 봉화군은 타 지역보다 봄철 기온이 낮아 6월까지 안정적인 수확이 가능하다는 점에서 경쟁력이 높다. 이에 따라 출하 기간은 12월 초부터 6월 중순까지 이어져 소비자에게 장기간 신선한 딸기를 공급할 수 있다.

신종길 봉화군농업기술센터 소장은 “봉화 딸기는 지역의 기후적 장점을 살려 고품질로 생산되고 있다”며 “출하 초기부터 소비자 반응이 긍정적으로 예상되며, 앞으로도 농가 소득 증대를 위한 기술 및 유통 지원을 강화하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 봉화 딸기는 지역 로컬푸드 직매장에서 구매할 수 있으며, 봉화군농업기술센터 누리집의 농특산물 게시판을 통해 생산 농가 정보를 확인해 직거래도 가능하다.
