이번 평가는 대구·대덕·광주·부산·전북 등 전국 5개 연구개발특구를 대상으로 △특구 사업 성과 △특구 구성원 만족도 △지자체의 특구 발전 기여도 등 3개 영역, 6개 지표에 대해 종합적으로 이뤄졌다.

대구특구는 기술사업화 부문에서의 뛰어난 성과와 함께, 특화산업 구체화 및 신규사업 기획 등 특구 발전을 위한 대구시의 적극적인 행정 지원이 높은 평가를 받았다.

특히 대구시는 창업공간 부족 문제 해소와 디지털 전환에 대응하기 위해 추진해 온 ‘연구개발특구 지정변경’을 지난해 12월 확정하고, 수성알파시티를 비롯한 대학 및 산학협력 인프라를 특구에 대거 편입했다. 이를 통해 디지털 융복합 산업 육성을 위한 기반을 대폭 확충한 점이 우수 사례로 꼽혔다.

이번 평가로 확보한 국비 20억 원은 대구특구 내 전략기술 연구성과의 사업화와 지역혁신 실증 스케일업 등 특구 육성 사업에 투입될 예정이다. 대구시는 이를 통해 딥테크 기업 성장을 지원하고 글로벌 경쟁력 강화를 본격화할 계획이다.

한편 대구특구는 2011년 지정 이후 기술사업화 지원, 전문 인력 양성, 산학연 네트워크 구축을 지속적으로 추진해 왔다. 그 결과 2025년 기준 누적 연구소기업 305개사를 설립하고 첨단기술기업 21개사를 지정했으며, 지난해 한 해 동안 기술이전 126건, 사업화 지원 매출액 651억 원, 일자리 창출 373명 등 실질적인 성과를 거뒀다.

정의관 대구광역시 미래혁신성장실장은 “이번 평가는 대구시와 대구특구가 긴밀히 협력해 조성해 온 혁신생태계의 성과를 공식적으로 인정받은 것”이라며 “확장된 특구 인프라를 기반으로 대구가 영남권 혁신성장의 핵심 거점으로 도약할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Daegu Metropolitan City has secured KRW 2 billion in national funding for its Daegu Research and Development Special Zone, receiving the highest rating of 'Excellent' in the '2025 Research and Development Special Zone Performance Evaluation' conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

This comprehensive evaluation, covering five R&D special zones nationwide—Daegu, Daedeok, Gwangju, Busan, and Jeollabuk-do—considered six indicators in three areas: special zone project performance, special zone member satisfaction, and local government contribution to special zone development.

Daegu Special Zone received high marks for its outstanding achievements in technology commercialization and the city's proactive administrative support for special zone development, including the concretization of specialized industries and the planning of new projects.

In particular, the Daegu Metropolitan City finalized its "Research and Development Special Zone Designation Change" in December of last year to address the shortage of startup space and respond to the digital transformation. The city also incorporated a large number of universities and industry-academia collaboration infrastructure, including Suseong Alpha City, into the special zone. This significantly expanded the foundation for fostering digital convergence industries, and was cited as a best practice.

The KRW 2 billion in national funding secured through this evaluation will be invested in special zone development projects, including commercialization of strategic technology research results and scale-up of regional innovation demonstrations within the Daegu Special Zone. Through this initiative, the city plans to support the growth of deep-tech companies and strengthen their global competitiveness.

Since its designation in 2011, the Daegu Special Zone has consistently promoted technology commercialization support, professional talent development, and the establishment of industry-academia-research networks. As a result, as of 2025, a total of 305 research institutes were established and 21 cutting-edge technology companies were designated. Last year, tangible results were achieved, including 126 technology transfers, KRW 65.1 billion in commercialization support revenue, and 373 jobs created.
