【브레이크뉴스 영천】이성현 기자=미국을 방문 중인 최기문 영천시장과 영천 농식품 미국 수출 개척단이 현지 시간으로 15일 뉴저지에 위치한 ESU(농산물 유통기업)와 영천마늘 수출 확대를 위한 업무협약을 체결했다.

영천시에 따르면 영천마늘을 수입하는 ESU는 2010년에 뉴욕 뉴저지에 설립된 기업으로 연 매출 6,000만 불 달하며 전 세계 14개국으로부터 농산물을 수입해 미국 48개 주에 유통하는 기업체다.

지난 2020년부터 국산 깐마늘을 수입한 이력이 있으며 경북통상(주)의 바이어 알선으로 협약이 체결됐다.

이번 협약은 신녕농협과 영천시, ESU 간의 3개 기관이 체결했으며 신녕농협은 품질 및 규격에 적합한 마늘을 안정적으로 공급될 수 있도록 협력하며, 영천시는 수출 확대를 위해 수출 장려금, 국외 판촉행사, 수출 단지 조성 등에 협력하기로 했으며, ESU는 미주지역 유통채널을 활용해 영천시 농특산물의 수출 확대에 적극 협력하기로 서명했다고 전했다.

ESU는 당초 연간 660톤, 연간 300만 불 목표에서 연간 2000톤, 연간 900만 불 납품을 요구했으나, 이날 업무협약식에 참가한 의원 및 단체장들의 의견을 모아 연간 1000톤 450만 불 수출협약을 체결했다.

최기문 영천시장은 “이번 협약을 통해 거대 소비 시장인 미국에 영천마늘을 소개하고 글로벌 네트위크 구축은 물론 수출량 확대까지 성과를 거두었다.”면서 “수출 판로 확대로 농가 소득을 견인하는 데 최선을 다하겠다.”라고 말했다.

This agreement was signed by three organizations between Shinnyeong Agricultural Cooperative, Yeongcheon City, and ESU. Shinnyeong Agricultural Cooperative cooperates to ensure a stable supply of garlic that meets quality and standards, and Yeongcheon City provides export incentives, overseas promotional events, and export complexes to expand exports.
