【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=김민석 국무총리 후보자가 20일 대구 수성알파시티를 찾아 대경ICT산업협회와 인공지능 전환(AX) 연구거점 조성을 위한 간담회를 가졌다.

대구디지털혁신진흥원(DIP)에서 열린 이번 행사는 총리 후보자의 대구 방문 일정 가운데 유일한 공식 일정으로, 대선 당시 약속한 ‘알파시티 방문’을 실천한 자리이기도 하다.

이날 간담회는 ICT 업계와 학계, 지역 단체 관계자들이 함께한 가운데 진행됐다. 김 후보자는 “대선 당시 대구의 민주당 의원이 없어 안타깝다는 이야기를 듣고, ‘지역구 의원처럼 대구를 챙기겠다’고 약속했는데, 그 약속을 지키러 왔다”고 말했다. 

이어 “수성알파시티를 영남권 AX 연구개발의 중심지로 키우고, 바이오·로봇 등 특화 산업과의 융합을 통해 실질적 성과를 낼 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

최종태 대경ICT산업협회장은 “당시 발언이 정치인의 수사로 끝날 줄 알았는데, 청문회를 앞둔 와중에 진짜로 약속을 지켜 깜짝 놀랐다”며 “이곳은 정부의 직접 지원 없이 7년 만에 포도밭에서 ICT 중심지로 탈바꿈해 연 매출 1조 원, 350개 기업이 입주한 자생적 단지로 성장했다. 대구가 글로벌 AI 전환 특구로 자리매김할 수 있도록 국가적 차원의 관심이 절실하다”고 강조했다.

김 후보자는 “AI는 이 정부가 가장 중요하게 여기는 전략 분야 중 하나”라며, “대통령실이 AI 수석비서관을 별도로 두고, 최고 민간 인재를 공공 영역으로 영입한 것만 보더라도 그 진정성을 알 수 있다”고 말했다. 

또한 “AI 기술과 정책이 수도권에만 집중되지 않고, 대구처럼 역량 있는 지역이 함께 발전해야 진짜 국가 경쟁력이 생긴다”고 덧붙였다.

한편 그는 대구시장의 공백 상황을 언급하며 “지금 같은 불확실성의 시기에 중앙정부가 더욱 책임 있게 대구와 협력해야 한다”며 “향후 총리로서든, 어떤 위치에 있든 대구와의 연결고리를 지속하겠다”고 밝혔다. 

또 “정치보다 국정에 집중할 수 있도록 대구경북의 큰 지지가 필요하다”며 “정부가 제대로 일할 수 있도록 응원해달라”고 당부했다.

Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok visited Suseong Alpha City in Daegu on the 20th and held a meeting with the Daegu ICT Industry Association to discuss the establishment of an artificial intelligence transition (AX) research base.

He continued, “I will actively support Suseong Alpha City to grow into a center for AX research and development in the Yeongnam region and to produce tangible results through convergence with specialized industries such as bio and robots.”

Choi Jong-tae, chairman of the Daegu ICT Industry Association, said, “I thought the remarks at the time would end as politicians’ rhetoric, but I was surprised that they actually kept their promise in the run-up to the hearing,” and emphasized, “Without direct government support, this place transformed from a vineyard to an ICT hub in just seven years, growing into a self-sustaining complex with annual sales of 1 trillion won and 350 companies. We urgently need national attention so that Daegu can establish itself as a global AI transition special zone.”

Candidate Kim said, “AI is one of the strategic areas that this government considers most important,” and “You can see its sincerity just by looking at the fact that the presidential office has a separate chief secretary for AI and recruited top private sector talent to the public sector.”

He also added, “AI technology and policies should not be concentrated in the metropolitan area, but rather, regions with capabilities like Daegu should develop together to create true national competitiveness.”

Meanwhile, he mentioned the vacancy of the Daegu mayor and said, “In times of uncertainty like now, the central government should cooperate with Daegu more responsibly,” and “I will continue to connect with Daegu, whether as the prime minister or in any other position.”

He also said, “We need great support from Daegu and Gyeongbuk so that we can focus on state affairs rather than politics,” and asked, “Please cheer for the government to work properly.”
