【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포스코1%나눔재단이 3일 서울 포스코센터에서 국가유공자와 현직 소방관·군인 등 36명에게 맞춤형 첨단보조기구를 전달했다.

‘국가유공자 첨단보조기구 지원 사업’은 국가 유공자와 공상·전상으로 장애를 입은 현직 군인·소방관의 자립을 지원하기 위해 2020년 6·25전쟁 70주년을 계기로 시작된 사업이다. 재단은 지금까지 총 219명에게 로봇 의수·의족, AI 보청기, 다기능 휠체어 등 보조기구를 지원했다. 사업은 국가보훈부와 협력해 추진돼 왔다.

이날 행사에는 포스코그룹 장인화 회장, 국가보훈부 강윤진 차관, 한국보훈복지의료공단 윤종진 이사장 등이 참석해 전달식을 함께했다.

장인화 포스코그룹 회장은 “나라를 위해 헌신한 분들에게 작지만 실질적인 도움을 드릴 수 있어 뜻깊다”며 “앞으로도 포스코는 이들의 희생과 헌신을 기억하는 활동을 지속해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

강윤진 국가보훈부 차관은 “기업이 국가유공자 복지 향상에 동참하는 것은 의미 있는 시민사회 협력 사례”라며 “보훈의 가치를 사회 전반으로 확산시키는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

전달식에서는 1999년 군 복무 중 사고로 하반신 마비 판정을 받은 이지운 씨와 군 장갑차 정비 작업 중 손을 잃은 김도경 중사가 대표로 보조기구를 전달받았다.

이지운 씨는 “앞으로 이동 편의성이 크게 개선될 것”이라며 “현재 활동 중인 장애 인식 개선 강사와 작곡 활동에 더 전념할 수 있게 됐다”고 말했다. 김도경 중사는 “이번 지원이 큰 용기와 자부심이 됐다”며 “재활과 전문 역량 강화에 더욱 매진하겠다”고 전했다.

2013년 설립된 포스코1%나눔재단은 포스코그룹 3만8천여 명의 임직원 기부금과 회사 매칭 기금으로 운영되고 있으며, ‘1% 나눔이 100% 희망이 된다’는 슬로건 아래 취약계층 지원, 교육, 재활 분야 사회공헌 사업을 이어오고 있다.

On the 3rd, the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation delivered customized advanced assistive devices to 36 people, including national meritorious persons, active-duty firefighters, and military personnel, at the POSCO Center in Seoul.

The "Advanced Assistive Device Support Project for National Meritorious Persons" was launched in 2020, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, to support the independence of national meritorious persons and active-duty soldiers and firefighters with disabilities due to war or injury. To date, the foundation has provided assistive devices, including robotic prosthetic arms and legs, AI hearing aids, and multi-functional wheelchairs, to a total of 219 people. The project was implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.

The ceremony was attended by POSCO Group Chairman In-hwa Jang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Yoon Yoon-jin, and Korea Veterans Health Service Chairman Yoon Jong-jin.

POSCO Group Chairman Jang In-hwa said, "It is meaningful to be able to provide small but practical assistance to those who have dedicated themselves to our country. POSCO will continue to engage in activities that commemorate their sacrifices and dedication."

Vice Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kang Yoon-jin stated, "It is a meaningful example of civil society cooperation for companies to participate in improving the welfare of veterans. We will do our best to spread the value of veterans' welfare throughout society."

At the ceremony, Lee Ji-woon, who was diagnosed with paraplegia in a 1999 military accident, and Sergeant Kim Do-kyung, who lost a hand while maintaining a military armored vehicle, received assistive devices on behalf of the recipients.

Lee Ji-woon said, "My mobility will be greatly improved," adding, "I will be able to focus more on my current work as a disability awareness lecturer and composer." Sergeant Kim Do-kyung expressed, "This support has given me great courage and pride. I will dedicate myself even more to rehabilitation and strengthening my professional capabilities."

Established in 2013, the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation is funded by donations from approximately 38,000 POSCO Group employees and matching funds from the company. Under the slogan, “1% Sharing Becomes 100% Hope,” the foundation continues to carry out social contribution projects in the areas of support, education, and rehabilitation for the underprivileged.
