(주)서한은 대구·경북지역 내 우수인재 발굴 및 육성을 통한 지역사회 발전을 목적으로 장학재단을 설립하여 2006년부터 대구교육청과 경북교육청을 통해 학업능력이 우수하고 재능이 뛰어난 학생들을 추천받아 해마다 장학금을 수여하는 의미 있는 행사를 이어오고 있다.

금번 장학사업으로 대구경북의 경찰관 및 소방관 자녀 85명, 전국기능경기대회에서 입상한 학생 47명, 국가유공자 자녀 10명을 포함한 장학생 372명을 대상으로 장학금 총 3억 7천만원을 지원하였고, 대구경북 지역 내 학교를 대상으로 학교발전기금 1억 4백만원을 지급하는 등, 지역인재양성을 위해 약 5억원을 지원했다.

이로써 (주)서한은 장학재단 설립 후 현재까지 장학생 총 2,702명에게 장학금 28억원, 기타지원사업 총 7억원 등 총 35억원을 지역 내 인재양성을 위해 사용하여, 사회공헌사업에 앞장서고 있다.

한편, ㈜서한은 지난 3월 코로나19 극복을 위해 2억원의 성금과 일선에서 고군분투중인 의료진 및 관계자를 위해 방호복 1만1천벌, 라텍스장갑 10만쌍, 손소독제 8만개, 건강식품(홍삼) 7,800세트 등 8억원의 구호물품을 직접 구매 및 전달하며, 지역사회에 보탬이 되기 위해 대구사회복지 공동모금회(사랑의 열매)를 통해 총 10억원을 전달했다.

또한 ㈜서한은 당해 코로나19 사태 확산으로 인한 혈액 수급 위기를 극복하기 위해 서한 임직원들이 자발적으로 ‘사랑나눔 헌혈행사’를 개최 및 참여하였고, 지역민들을 위해 ‘사랑의 연탄나눔’을 실시하는 등, ㈜서한은 코로나19로 위기상황에 놓인 지역사회에 작지만 큰 힘이 되기 위해 여러 사회공헌사업을 실시하고 있다.

이번 장학금 수여는 코로나19의 전국적인 확산으로 인해 별도의 장학증서 수여식은 하지 않았지만 장학금을 받은 학생들이 감사영상들과 사진을 보내온 것으로 알려져 이번 장학금 수여를 더욱 뜻깊게 했다.

장학생으로 선발된 지역의 한 학생은 “장학금을 받게 돼 기쁘고 덕분에 학업에 좀 더 집중할 수 있게 되었다. 반드시 사회에 보탬이 되는 사람이 되어 받은 사랑을 돌려주고 싶다.”라며 감사의 말을 전했다.
