한국수력원자력(주) 한울원자력본부(본부장 박범수)는 지난 6일 오후 한울원전1·2호기(가압경수로형, 95만kW급) 취수구에 해양생물(살파: 대형 플랑크톤의 일종)이 다량 유입되는 것을 확인하고 오후 6시 43분경 한울2호기, 오후 7시 21분경 한울1호기 터빈 발전기 출력을 감소해 수동으로 정지시켰다고 밝혔다.

현재 한울본부는 비상요원을 투입해 유입된 해양생물을 제거하고 있으며 원자로는안정상태를 유지하고 있고 외부로의 방사능 누출은 없다고 밝혔다.
