한국국학진흥원(원장 정종섭)과 한국학호남진흥원(원장 천득염), 충청남도역사문화연구원(원장 조한필)으로 이루어진 국학진흥협의체가 문화체육관광부(장관 황희, 이하 문체부)와 함께 전통기록문화 유산을 활용한 영화 시나리오를 공모한 결과  ‘금주시대’ 등 3편이 선정했다.

10일, 국학진흥협의체와 문화체육관광부는 지난 10월 15일부터 29일까지 2회의 심사를 거쳐 11월 9일 임찬익 작가의 ‘금주시대’, 권정현 작가의 ‘예청’을 최우수상, 조승범 작가의 ‘북촌’과, 진서울 작가의 ‘조보: 붉은 꼬리의 비밀’을 각각 우수상으로 선정했다고 밝혔다. 

이들 단체에 따르면 올해로 2회째인 이번 공모전은 전통 기록유산에 있는 한국적인 소재를 기반으로 하는 창작을 지원하기 위한 것으로, 전통의 기록 유산을 활용한 90분 내외의 실제 제작이 가능한 영화 시나리오를 대상으로 한다. 

특히 한국의 문화산업이 전 세계에서 사랑받고 있는 시대에 한국의 전통을 기반으로 한 새로운 창작 가능성을 모색하기 위한 것이기도 하다. 

이번 공모전에 심사위원장 오은영 교수를 비롯한 총 9명의 심사위원은 전문성과 독창성, 영화 제작 가능성, 발전 가능성 등을 중심으로 심사를 진행했으며 총 75편의 완성된 시나리오가 응모해, 1차 예심을 통해 15편의 본선진출작을 선정했고, 2차 본심을 통해 대상을 비롯한 4편의 입상작이 선정됐다. 

이번 공모전에는 조선시대 자주 내려진 금주령을 배경으로 한 일상인의 삶을 그린 작품으로부터 북촌의 개발사와 조선시대 언론 역할을 했던 조보에 이르기까지 다양한 작품들이 호평을 받으면서 입상작에 이름을 올렸다. 

오은영 심사위원장은 “올해로 2회째를 맞는 공모전에서는 보다 새롭고 신선한 소재를 바탕으로 한 작품들이 대거 출품되어 눈길을 끌었다. 대중들에게 역사의 정보와 의미를 재미있는 장르영화로 구현해 낼 수 있는 가능성이 많은 작품들이 많았다”면서 “비록 한국영화계가 코로나로 인해 어려운 시기를 겪고 있지만 사극영화에 대한 안정적인 시장성을 지닌 만큼 향후 관객과 만날 수 있는 기회가 있길 바란다”라고 말했다.  

작년에 처음으로 시작된 공모전의 입상작 4편 가운데 벌써 2편이 각각 영화와 드라마로 시나리오로 계약을 마치고 제작을 위한 준비 단계에 들어가 있는 만큼, 이번 수상작들 역시 실제 제작으로 이어질 수 있을 것으로 판단하고 있다. 

수상작은 대상 1명에게는 문체부 장관상과 상금 2천만 원, 최우수상 1명에게는 한국국학진흥원장상과 상금 1천만 원, 우수상 2명에게는 한국학호남진흥원장상과 상금 500만 원, 충남역사문화연구원장상과 상금 500만 원이 각각 수여될 예정이다.
