이 시장은 “지난 6월 7일부터 돌입한 화물연대의 무기한 운송 거부는 정부와 국회의 정책적 사항이 주된 쟁점이지만, 지방정부 차원에서도 지역 기업과 근로자들의 목소리가 정부에 생생히 전달될 수 있도록 노력해 노사관계 안정에 만전을 기하겠다”며, “운송 거부 사태가 하루빨리 정상화되기를 기대한다”라고 말했다.

또한, 7월 상병수당 시범사업 시행을 앞두고는 “시범사업의 성공적인 정착을 위해 시민 여러분들의 많은 관심을 부탁드린다”며, “이와 함께 시민들의 접근성을 높일 수 있도록 지역 의료기관들의 대대적인 참여를 당부드린다”라고 강조했다.

한편, 상병수당이란 근로자가 업무 외 질병 및 부상 등으로 경제활동을 할 수 없는 경우에 치료에만 집중할 수 있도록 소득 일부를 국가에서 지원해 주는 사회보장제도이며, 지난 3월 1단계 시범사업 공모에 63개 지자체가 지원한 결과 포항시를 포함한 6개 지자체가 최종 선정된 바 있다.
