【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=이강덕 포항시장이 13일 대구스포츠산업지원센터에서 열린 ‘TK100 토론회’에 참석해 포항시의 미래 산업 비전과 철강산업 혁신 전략을 발표했다.

이날 토론회는 대구경북인터넷기자협회 주최로 ‘포항시의 미래, 철강의 내일’을 주제로 진행됐다.

이 시장은 “철강이 무너지면 첨단산업도 없다. 철강은 반도체와 인공지능, 전기차 산업의 뼈대”라며, 철강산업이 포항과 대한민국 산업의 근간임을 재차 강조했다. “철강 경기가 어렵다는 것은 곧 대구경북 전체와 국가 경제의 문제”라고도 덧붙이며, 지역 산업 간 연계와 균형발전의 중요성을 강조했다.

이 시장은 또, 글로벌 경기 변동과 산업 구조 재편 등 변화하는 환경에 맞서 포항 철강산업의 경쟁력 강화를 위해 다양한 정책을 펼치고 있다고 밝혔다. 구체적으로는 산업위기 선제대응지역 지정, 중소기업 특별지원지역 연장, 철강산업 위기 극복을 위한 공동대응 등이 추진되고 있다고 설명했다.

아울러 위기 극복 방안으로 ▲K-스틸법 조속 제정 ▲산업용 전기요금 인하 ▲원스톱 무역·통상 컨트롤타워 구축 ▲금융·세제 패키지 지원 등을 제시했다.

포항시는 내년도 국비 지원을 확보하기 위해 총 16건, 약 2,105억 원 규모의 예산 지원을 국회에 건의한 상태다. 이 가운데 철강산업 위기 극복을 위한 이차보전금 지원 사업도 포함된 것으로 알려졌다.

이강덕 시장은 “제조 강국의 바탕에는 반드시 철강이 있다”며 “포항 철강산업의 지속 가능한 성장과 지역 경제 회복을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok attended the "TK100 Forum" held at the Daegu Sports Industry Support Center on the 13th and presented Pohang City's future industrial vision and steel industry innovation strategy.

The forum, hosted by the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Internet Journalists Association, was themed "Pohang City's Future, Steel's Tomorrow."

Mayor Lee reiterated the importance of the steel industry as the foundation of Pohang and South Korea, stating, "If steel collapses, there will be no cutting-edge industries. Steel is the backbone of the semiconductor, artificial intelligence, and electric vehicle industries." He added, "A difficult steel market is a problem for the entire Daegu-Gyeongbuk region and the national economy," emphasizing the importance of inter-regional collaboration and balanced development.

Mayor Lee also announced that he is implementing various policies to strengthen the competitiveness of Pohang's steel industry in response to changing circumstances, including global economic fluctuations and industrial restructuring. Specifically, he explained that initiatives are underway, including the designation of preemptive industrial crisis response zones, extension of special support zones for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and joint responses to overcome the steel industry crisis.

He also proposed measures to overcome the crisis, including the rapid enactment of the K-Steel Act, reductions in industrial electricity rates, establishment of a one-stop trade and commerce control tower, and support for financial and tax packages.

Pohang City has submitted a total of 16 proposals to the National Assembly, totaling approximately 210.5 billion won, to secure national funding for next year. This includes a secondary subsidy program to overcome the steel industry crisis.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, "Steel is the foundation of a manufacturing powerhouse," and added, "I will do my utmost to ensure the sustainable growth of Pohang's steel industry and the recovery of the local economy."
