시에 따르면 이번 노선 조정은 대규모 아파트 단지 건립에도 대중교통 이용이 불편했던 완산지구(미소지움 1·2단지, e편한세상) 거주 학생의 통학 개선, 폴리텍 대학 및 시민운동장 이용 활성화, 동부사거리~시청오거리~영동교~시장사거리 구간 버스 노선 중복에 따른 혼잡 분산이 목적이다.

노선 조정으로 2번 노선은 기존 동부사거리→시청오거리→영동교→시장사거리 운행 구간을 동부사거리→영화교→완산지구→시장사거리 운행으로 6번 노선은 완산동 내 순환(완산지구↔영천초등학교) 운행에서 시내 순환(운동장→터미널→영천초→영천역→시장사거리→완산지구→영동고→시청→도서관·영천중→폴리텍 대학)으로 변경된다.

최기문 영천시장은 “시민편의를 위한 효율적인 노선 조정으로 지역민들의 의견을 수렴하여, 이용객의 입장에서 노선을 운영하는 등 대중교통 이용에 불편이 없도록 만전을 기할 것”을 당부했다.
