청도군에서는 지난해 기준 7,645톤의 가연성 폐기물이 반입됐으나 소각량은 3,328톤에 불과해 전부 소각하지 못하고 매립 처리하여 매립장 사용연한 단축 등 폐기물 처리에 어려움을 겪고 있는 상황이다.
이번 선정으로 총사업비 9억원을 투입해 폐비닐 전문 선별시설이 설치되면 폐기물량을감소시켜 안정적인 폐기물처리시설 운영이 가능할 것으로 보이며, 매립시설 사용연한 또한 증대될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
