【브레이크뉴스 문경】이성현 기자=문경시(시장 신현국)는 2011년에 열린 제14회 대회에 이어 2회 연속으로 2027년 세계소프트테니스 선수권대회 개최지로 선정됐다고 12일 밝혔다.

이번 대회 유치는 국제소프트테니스연맹 회장 겸 대한소프트테니스협회장인 정인선 회장이 지난 10월 7일 문경시를 방문한 자리에서 신현국 문경시장이 적극적인 대회 유치 의사를 표명함에 따라 중국 징산현 ISTF(국제소프트테니스연맹) 임시총회에서 한국, 중국, 대만의 대회 유치 경합 끝에 만장일치로 문경을 개최지로 확정하게 됐다.

문경시와 문경시소프트테니스협회 관계자가 ISTF 임시총회 현장을 방문하여 유치 홍보 활동에 적극 나선 바 있다.

1975년 미국 하와이에서 열린 제1회 대회를 시작으로, 17회째를 맞는 세계소프트테니스 선수권대회는 65개 회원국을 보유한 국제소프트테니스연맹(ISTF)이 주최하는 대회로 지난 2011년 제14회 대회가 문경에서 개최됐다.

문경시는 2027년 세계 대회에 대비하여 국·도비 확보, 조직위원회 구성 등 대회 준비에 만전을 기할 계획이다.

신현국 문경시장은“국내·외 100여개 스포츠 대회 개최 및 유치를 통한 스포츠 마케팅 시책이‘2027년 세계소프트테니스 선수권대회 유치’라는 긍정적인 결실을 맺어 기쁘고, 2027년 세계대회 개최를 전 시민과 함께 환영하며, 대회가 차질없이 개최될 수 있도록 준비에 전 행정력을 집중하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Mungyeong City Selected as Host for 2027 World Soft Tennis Championships

Mungyeong City (Mayor Shin Hyun-kook) announced on the 12th that it has been selected as the host for the 2027 World Soft Tennis Championships for the second consecutive time, following the 14th tournament held in 2011.

The World Soft Tennis Championships, which began with the first competition held in Hawaii, USA in 1975 and is now in its 17th year, is hosted by the International Soft Tennis Federation (ISTF), which has 65 member countries. The 14th competition was held in Mungyeong in 2011.

Mungyeong City plans to fully prepare for the 2027 World Championships by securing national and provincial funds and organizing an organizing committee.

Mayor Shin Hyun-guk of Mungyeong City said, “I am delighted that the sports marketing policy of hosting and attracting over 100 domestic and international sports competitions has borne positive fruit in the form of the ‘2027 World Soft Tennis Championships,’ and I welcome the hosting of the 2027 World Championships with all citizens, and I will focus all administrative power on preparations so that the competition can be held without a hitch.”
