【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=문경관광개발이 창립 20주년을 맞이한 가운데 지난 발자취를 돌아보며 성장을 위한 고민에 나섰다.

2003년 시민주 공모를 위해 2003년 1월 설립등기를 마치고 이사 8명과 감사 2명의 설립주주 출연금 2억으로 출범한 문경관광개발은 문경시 출자 등 현재 자본금 81억3천90만원을 보유한 주식회사다.

회사의 주요사업은 함께 상생하는 문경레저타운에 60억 전환사채 투자로 보유한 지분 9.1%와 골프장 카트사업, 골프장과 새재리조트 시설용역과 식음료 사업 그리고 문경새재내 자판기 사업 등으로 지역주민 일자리 창출뿐만 아니라 매년 은행금리를 훨씬 웃도는 배당금을 지급하며 지역경제 활성화에 기여하고 있다.

문경관광개발은 향토기업의 가장 큰 역할을 지역민 고용창출로 꼽으며 회사가 추진하는 신규사업이 완성되면 지역민 고용이 더욱 확대될 전망이라고 밝혔다.

문경관광개발이 추진 중인 여러 사업 가운데 가장 주력하는 것은 골프 사업으로 현재 영순 의곡리 산 일원에 간이골프장 6홀 규모의 회사부지를 보유하고 있으며 지역주민의 골프장 추진요청 등에 따라 문경시와 사업추진에 대한 사안들을 논의하고 있다. 

박시복 대표는 “골프인구가 지속적 증가추세고 국내 골프장 예약이 점점 어려운 만큼 간이골프장 사업추진을 위해 임직원이 노력을 기울이겠다.” 고 밝혔다.

한편 문경관광개발은 함께 20주년을 맞이한 문경레저타운과의 동반성장의 중요성을 강조하기도 했다. 

문경레저타운과 문경관광개발을 태동시킨 박인원 전 문경시장은 “문경시장 역임당시 정부에서 폐광지역지원사업을 추진할 때 그 지역 거주 주민들의 열정을 가장 큰 동력으로 생각했는데 시민주가 그 열망을 증명해 문경에 골프장이 들어설 수 있었다.”고 설명하며 “문경레저타운의 설립목적이 폐광지역 문경시민에게 최대한의 이익을 환원하는 것이기에 문경관광개발의 시민주주의 이익확대를 위해 함께 노력해야 한다.”고 덧붙여 말했다.

향토기업은 지역불균형을 해소하고 지역경제 살리기에 가장 안전한 해결책이지만 중앙정부 차원의 향토기업 지원 관련 법률을 미비한 상황이다.

각 지자체가 제정한 조례만이 향토기업을 지원하는 근간이기에 2022년 문경관광개발(주)은 행정안전부 지방출자기관 지정고시 되었다. 이에 문경관광개발은 “문경시도 문경관광개발(주)의 출자기관 지정고시에 따라 추가 출자로 진행하여 지역 관광자원개발 등 향토기업 육성에도 더욱 많은 관심을 기울여야 한다.”고 주장했다.

아울러 창립 20주년을 맞은 문경관광개발과 문경레저타운이 이름만 들어도 알만한 다른 지역의 향토기업과 같이 성장하길 바라는 기대를 전했다.

Park In-won, the former mayor of Mungyeong, who initiated Mungyeong Leisure Town and Mungyeong Tourism Development, said, “When I was the mayor of Mungyeong, when the government promoted the abandoned mine area support project, I thought the passion of the residents living in the area as the biggest driving force, and citizen owners proved that aspiration and came to Mungyeong. The golf course was able to be established,” he explained, adding, “Since the purpose of the establishment of Mungyeong Leisure Town is to return maximum profits to the citizens of Mungyeong in the abandoned mine area, we must work together to expand the interests of citizen shareholders in Mungyeong Tourism Development.”

Although local businesses are the safest solution to resolving regional imbalance and revitalizing the local economy, the central government lacks laws related to supporting local businesses.

Since only ordinances enacted by each local government are the basis for supporting local businesses, in 2022, Mungyeong Tourism Development Co., Ltd. was designated as a local investment organization by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.
