5일, 오후 2시 경북 문경시 문경문화예술회관 대공연장에서 한국체육대학교 문경 이전 범시민 추진위원회 출범식이 개최되었다.

이날 행사는 추진위원회의 명예 위원장인 신현국 문경시장을 비롯 각계각층의 기관 및 시민단체 등 700여 명이 참석한 가운데 식전공연, 추진경과보고, 위촉장 수여, 축사, 결의문 낭독, 문경이전기원영상, 퍼포먼스 등이 진행되었다.

신현국 문경시장은 “선거에 나섰을 때 공약으로 국립대학 이전을 약속했다. 그때만 해도 무모하고 허황되었다고 했는데 취임 5개월 만에 이렇게 한국체대 이전 추진위 발대식을 하고 있다.”며 희망찬 메시지로 축사를 전했다.

신 시장은 “대한민국은 지방소멸이라는 큰 과제를 가지고 있다.”며 “윤석열 대통령님께서도 선거에서 주요공약으로 국토 균형발전을 내건 만큼 문경의 한국체대 유치는 반드시 이뤄질 일이라고 생각한다. 이 공약을 반드시 이뤄낼 수 있도록 만들겠다.”고 약속을 전했다.

문경시의회 황재용 의장은 “카타르 월드컵에서 대한민국이 16강 진출을 해냈듯이 우리도 1%의 가능성도 포기하지 않고 7만 문경 시민이 한마음 한 뜻으로 동참한다면 좋은 소식이 나타날 거라고 믿는다.”며 “우리 문경시의회도 한국체육대학교 문경 이전을 위해 최선을 다할 것을 약속드린다.”고 강조했다.
