이날 대구 시내 96개 학교 장학생 96명, 지역내 가족센터를 통한 다문화 가정의 장학생 24명, 총 120명의 학생들에게 1명당 80만원 총 9,600만원의 장학금을 전달했다.

장학금 전달식은 달서구에 위치한 학교의 장학생에게 장학증서를 직접 전달하고 격려했으며 나머지 학교의 장학생에게는 우편으로 전달하는 비대면 방식으로 진행했다.

‘DTRO장학회’는 2013년‘역직원장학회’로 출발해 2019년 공사 직원 전체를 대상으로 한‘DTRO장학회’로 확대 발족했으며, 공사 직원들이 자발적으로 기금을 조성해 지난해까지 대구 시내 고등학생 725명에게 약 7억원 이상의 장학금을 지급해 오고 있다.

특히 올해는 지역내 경제적 어려움을 극복하는 차원에서 저소득층, 다문화 가정에 대한 장학금 지급대상을 더 늘려 총 인원을 확대했다.

대구교통공사 김기혁 사장은“DTRO 장학금을 통해 대구 지역 학생들에게 작은 응원의 메시지를 전달할 수 있어 기쁘다”며“이번 지원이 학생들이 자신의 꿈과 목표를 향해 나아가는 데 밑거름이 되기를 바란다”고 말했다.
