대구교통공사에 따르면 이번에 설치한 CCTV는 열차 화재 등 비상상황 발생 시 기관사가 운전실에서 객실 상황을 실시간으로 확인해 대응할 수 있도록 열차 화재감지기, 비상인터폰과 연동되게 했다.

또 승객의 쓰러짐 등 이상상황 발생 시에도 운전실의 기관사가 확인이 가능해 범죄예방과 더불어 승객 안전 확보에도 큰 효과가 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.  

객실 CCTV 영상은 개인정보보호법에 따라 범죄 수사 등의 목적으로만 사용된다.

공사 사장은 “열차에 CCTV를 설치하는 것만으로도 범죄예방 효과가 클 것으로 기대된다”며,“앞으로도 시민들이 안전하고 편리하게 도시철도를 이용할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
