【브레이크뉴스 경산】이성현 기자=대구대학교(총장 박순진)는 중소벤처기업부와 창업진흥원이 주관하는 ‘창업중심대학’ 중기 평가에서 ‘우수(A등급)’를 획득했다고 3일 밝혔다.

대구대는 이번 우수 평가를 통해 앞으로 2년간 사업을 지속 수행하며 지역 창업 거점 대학의 역할을 수행하게 된다.

‘창업중심대학’은 대학의 창업 인프라를 활용해 지역 스타트업을 지원하는 창업생태계 선도기관의 임무를 수행하는 사업으로 정부는 권역별로 창업지원 역량이 우수한 9개 대학을 ‘창업중심대학’으로 지정해 대학을 통한 지역 창업과 창업 활성화를 지원하고 있다.

지난 2022년 대구·경북지역에서 유일하게 창업중심대학에 선정된 대구대는 사업의 성공적 수행을 위해 총장 직속기구로 창업지원단을 설치하고 산하에 창업전략기획센터, 청년창업지원센터, 창업성장지원센터 등을 두어 창업 조직의 일원화와 산학협력 연계를 강화하고, 유망 창업자 지원의 효율성을 높였다.

또한 경북창조경제혁신센터, 한국예탁결제원, 엔젤클럽, 대경벤처창업성장재단 등 지역 유관기관은 물론 다양한 VC(벤처캐피탈)와 협력 관계를 구축하고, 스타트업 밸류업, 투자 고도화, 컨설팅 교육 등을 통해 창업 기업의 역량 강화를 지원해 왔다.

이에 더해 대구대는 지역 대학으로서의 지리적 장점을 살려 로컬창업지원 역량을 발휘하고 있다. 지난해 영천청년창업지원센터 운영기관으로 선정돼 3년간 영천 지역 내 청년 창업기업 육성과 창업문화 확산에 노력하고 있으며, 2023년부터 2년 연속 장애인기업종합지원센터에서 지원하는 장애인창업특화교육 사업을 수주해 80여 명의 장애인 교육생을 배출하기도 했다.

그 결과 예비, 초기, 도약 단계 창업 기업의 매출과 고용 성과, 투자 유치, 지식재산권 확보, 기업가치 100억 원 이상의 창업 기업 육성 등 각종 지표에서 목표를 초과 달성하며 괄목할 만한 성과를 거뒀다.

대구대는 앞으로 2년간(2025~2026) ‘경북-대구권 선순환 기술창업 벨트 구축 및 운영’을 비전으로 경북RISE 창업사업과 지자체·협력대학·혁신기관과 협력해 100억 원 규모의 경북 펀드를 조성하고, 연구소 기업 설립을 지원하며, 외부 투자 유치에 적극 나설 계획이다.

이재현 대구대 창업지원단장은 “이번 중기 평가에서 A등급을 받은 것은 대구대의 우수한 창업 지원 역량을 입증한 것으로, 앞으로 지자체와 협력대학, 혁신기관과의 협력 체계를 더욱 공고히 해 지역 경제를 살리는 창업생태계 구축에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

‘Entrepreneurship-Centered Universities’ is a project that performs the mission of a leading organization in the startup ecosystem that supports regional startups by utilizing the university’s startup infrastructure. The government is supporting regional startups and startup activation through universities by designating nine universities with excellent startup support capabilities by region as ‘Entrepreneurship-Centered Universities.’

Daegu University, the only university selected as a startup-centered university in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk region in 2022, established a startup support team as an organization directly under the president to successfully carry out the project, and established the Startup Strategy Planning Center, Youth Startup Support Center, and Startup Growth Support Center under its jurisdiction to strengthen the integration of startup organizations and industry-academia cooperation, and to increase the efficiency of supporting promising startups.

In addition, it has established cooperative relationships with various VCs (venture capitals) as well as regional related organizations such as the Gyeongbuk Creative Economy Innovation Center, Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation, Angel Club, and Daegyeong Venture Startup Growth Foundation, and has supported the strengthening of startup companies' capabilities through startup value-up, investment advancement, and consulting education.

In addition, Daegu University is utilizing its geographical advantages as a regional university to demonstrate its local startup support capabilities. Last year, it was selected as the operating organization of the Yeongcheon Youth Entrepreneurship Support Center and has been working to foster youth entrepreneurship and spread entrepreneurship culture in the Yeongcheon area for three years. It also won a contract for the specialized entrepreneurship education project for the disabled supported by the Comprehensive Support Center for the Disabled Enterprises for two consecutive years starting in 2023, and produced about 80 disabled trainees.

As a result, it has achieved remarkable results by exceeding its goals in various indicators such as sales and employment performance of startup companies in the preliminary, early, and leap stages, investment attraction, intellectual property rights acquisition, and fostering startup companies with a corporate value of over 10 billion won.

For the next two years (2025-2026), Daegu University plans to establish a Gyeongbuk fund worth 10 billion won in cooperation with the Gyeongbuk RISE startup project and local governments, partner universities, and innovation organizations with the vision of ‘building and operating a virtuous cycle technology startup belt in the Gyeongbuk-Daegu area’, support the establishment of research institute companies, and actively attract external investment.

Lee Jae-hyun, head of Daegu University’s Startup Support Group, said, “Receiving an A grade in this mid-term evaluation proves Daegu University’s excellent startup support capabilities.
