대구대에 따르면 김 교수는 코로나19로 인해 전국 초·중등학교가 원격수업을 도입함에 따라 ‘원격수업의 질 제고를 위한 교육과정 운영 방안 탐색 연구’를 수행해 우리나라 교육과정 운영 방안을 수립하는 데 기여했다.
또한 2015 개정 교육과정의 취지에 맞게 교원의 학생평가 역량에 중점을 둔 수업 진행을 통해 역량 중심의 교육 실현에 힘썼다.
이와 함께 국제 학업성취도 평가 연구, 디지털 리터러시(Digital Literacy) 검사 도구 개발, 교원 연수, 교육 정보화 정책 관련 연구 논문을 SSCI 저널과 국내 저널에 게재했다.
그는 이밖에 한국교육평가학회 이사와 등재지인 ‘아시아교육연구’ 편집이사 등 우리나라 교육학 발전을 위해 활발히 활동하고 있다.
