대한씨름협회는 매년 각 부문에서 뛰어난 성적을 거둔 팀과 지도자를 선정해 시상하고, 부별 랭킹 1위 팀에게 우수팀상과 우수지도자상을 수여한다. 영남대 씨름부는 2022년 대학부 성취상을 수상한 데 이어, 2023년과 2024년 연속으로 대학부 우수단체상과 우수지도자상을 수상하며 2년 연속 대학 씨름 최정상의 자리를 지켰다.

허용 감독은 “이번 수상은 이승호 코치를 비롯한 선수단 전원의 헌신과 학교, 학부모, 씨름부 동문회의 적극적인 지원 덕분에 가능했다”며, “현재 선수들의 부상 등으로 어려운 상황이지만, 위기를 극복해 2025년 시즌에도 좋은 성과를 이어갈 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.

영남대학교 씨름부는 1954년 창단 이후 홍현욱, 손상주, 임용재 등 대한민국 씨름계를 대표하는 장사를 배출하며 전통 강호로 자리매김해왔다. 또한, 2025년 중등임용고사 합격자(체육학부 김상현 졸업생)를 배출하며 씨름계를 넘어 교육계 등 다양한 분야에서도 200여 명 이상의 인재를 양성하고 있다.
