전국 대학 단체와 대구경북지역 50여개 시민단체로 구성된 영남대사태공동대책위원회는 9일 오전 11시 대구시 중구 2·28기념중앙공원에서 기자회견을 열고 최외출 총장을 비판하는 성명서를 발표했다.

지난해 영남대학교는 최외출 총장을 비판한 전 교수회 의장 이승렬 교수와 김문주 교수를 각각 정직 3개월과 정직 2개월의 징계를 처분했다.

이에 대해 지난 1월 교육부는 징계처분 취소 결정을 내렸지만 영남대는 징계 취소 처분에 대한 행정소송을 제기하였으며 더불어 두 교수를 횡령과 배임 혐의로 경찰에 고소했다고 알려진다.

뿐만 아니라 영남대 최외출 총장은 정관을 개정하고 총장후보추천위원회를 폐지하면서 이사회가 구성원 의견 수렴 절차 없이 단독으로 총장을 임명하도록 선임규정을 변경했다.

교수회나 직원노조, 총동창회 등 학내·외 관계자 9인으로 구성된 총장추천위원회가 전면 폐지되어 부분적으로나마 의견을 표명해온 구성원들의 참여가 완전히 봉쇄되면서 최외출 총장에 대한 비판 여론은 거세지고 있다.

대책위는 “영남대 총장은 이제 밀실에서 야합을 통해 정해지게 될 것”이라면서 “이러한 시도는 영남대를 사유화하려는 한 야심가의 의지의 발로”라고 꼬집었다.

그러면서 “문제는 이러한 상황에도 불구하고 영남대 내부 구성원, 적어도 교수회나 직원노조 어디에서도 비판의 목소리가 없다는 사실”이라며 “이는 현재 영남대 지배구조의 심각성을 적나라하게 드러내주는 증표”라고 강조했다.

또한 대책위는 “비위 혐의가 있는 최외출 총장에 대해 교수회 의장이 문제제기한 것이 어떻게 해교행위이며 학교의 명예를 훼손 하는 일이고, 내란에 해당되는 일인가?”라고 따져물으며 “영남대를 특정 개인과 세력이 앗아가는 것을 그대로 두고 볼 수는 없다.”고 목소리를 높였다.

이어 “영남대의 정상화를 위해 끝까지 싸워나갈 것”이라며 최외출 총장을 향해 이승렬 교수와 김문주 교수에 대한 부당한 징계 시도를 사과할 것, 구성원 억압 행위 중지, 표현의 자유 보장, 총장추천위원회 복원, 법인 이사 선임과정 공개, 영남대 및 영남학원 사유화 시도 전면 중단, 대학 교육 정상화를 촉구했다.

영남대사태공동대책위원회는 이날 기자회견을 시작으로 오는 14일까지 영남대 정문에서 해당 사태 관련 선전전을 이어갈 예정이며 15일에는 1차 세미나를 개최한다고 밝혔다.
