【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=경주시는 20일 최상목 대통령 권한대행 부총리 겸 기획재정부 장관이 경주를 방문하여 APEC 정상회의 준비 상황을 점검하고 지역 관광 활성화 방안을 논의했다고 밝혔다.

최 권한대행은 이날 오전 경주 화백컨벤션센터(HICO)에서 APEC 정상회의 준비 현황을 보고받고, 교통, 숙박, 보안, 의료체계 등 핵심 분야를 점검했다. 

그는 "제1차 고위관리회의(SOM1)가 성공적으로 마무리되며 한국의 리더십을 국제사회에 알릴 수 있는 기회가 됐다"고 언급하며, 정상회의의 성공적 개최를 위해 경주시와 관계 기관이 협력해 철저히 준비할 것을 당부했다.

최 대행은 이후 교촌한옥마을로 이동해 주낙영 경주시장의 안내를 받으며 전통문화 체험 프로그램을 점검했다. 그는 전통차 다도 체험, 한복 체험, 떡 만들기, 전통주 시음 등 다양한 프로그램을 살피며, 외국인 관광객 유치를 위한 개선 방안과 체험형 관광 상품 확대 방안을 꼼꼼히 살폈다.

교촌한옥마을 내 ‘경주최부자아카데미’에서 최 권한대행은 민생경제점검회의를 주재하고, 지역 경제 및 관광 활성화 방안에 대해 논의했다. 주요 안건으로는 ▲중국 단체관광객 대상 비자 면제 시범사업 ▲APEC 참석자 대상 팸투어 운영 ▲첨단 산업과 연계한 관광상품 개발 등이 논의되었다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “APEC 정상회의를 계기로 경주를 국제적인 관광·비즈니스 중심지로 성장시킬 것”이라며, 이를 통해 지역 경제의 지속 가능한 발전을 도모할 계획이라고 밝혔다. 최 권한대행은 이에 대해 “방한 관광 시장의 경쟁력을 높이고, 전국적인 관광 수요 확산을 위해 정부 차원의 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 화답했다.

Acting President Choi responded, “We will not spare government-level support to enhance the competitiveness of the inbound tourism market and expand tourism demand nationwide.”

Gyeongju City plans to focus its administrative power on attracting more global tourists and promoting various policies to revitalize the local economy, taking advantage of the APEC summit.
