경주시는 보문관광단지 내 국제미디어센터를 일반건축물로 전환해 회의·전시 기능을 강화하는 사업을 추진한다고 2일 밝혔다. 이번 사업은 APEC 정상회의 이후에도 국제회의와 대규모 전시 행사를 안정적으로 유치할 수 있는 마이스 산업 거점을 조성하는 데 목적이 있다.

사업은 올해부터 내년까지 총사업비 68억 원을 투입해 현재 가설건축물인 국제미디어센터를 일반건축물로 전환하고, 마이스 인프라로 활용하는 내용을 골자로 한다. 대상 시설은 경주시 보문로 507에 위치한 경주화백컨벤션센터(HICO) 인근 국제미디어센터로, 지상 2층 규모에 건축면적 3,401.19㎡, 연면적 6,503.92㎡이다.

경주시는 국제미디어센터를 일반건축물로 전환하는 동시에 화백컨벤션센터와 연결되는 통로를 설치하고, 국제미디어센터 2층에 회의장 활용 공간을 조성할 계획이다. 총사업비 가운데 36억 원은 용도 전환에, 32억 원은 회의장 조성에 각각 투입된다.

올해 본예산에는 29억 5천만 원이 반영됐으며, 나머지 38억 5천만 원은 추가경정예산을 통해 확보할 예정이다. 시는 지난해 9월부터 11월까지 기획설계 용역을 진행하고 지방재정투자심사를 마쳤으며, 이달 중 실시설계 용역을 거쳐 오는 4월 일반건축물 전환을 위한 관계 부서 협의를 진행할 방침이다.

공사는 국제 전시·행사 일정을 고려해 올해 11월 착공해 내년 4월 준공을 목표로 하고 있다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “이번 사업은 APEC 이후에도 국제회의와 전시를 지속적으로 유치할 수 있는 기반을 마련하는 데 큰 의미가 있다”며 “마이스 산업 경쟁력을 강화해 지역 관광과 경제 활성화로 이어질 수 있도록 차질 없이 추진하겠다”고 말했다.

The project, with a total budget of 6.8 billion won from this year to next year, will convert the current temporary structure, the International Media Center, into a general structure and utilize it as MICE infrastructure. The target facility is the International Media Center, located near the Gyeongju Hwabaek Convention Center (HICO) at 507 Bomun-ro, Gyeongju. It is a two-story building with a building area of ​​3,401.19㎡ and a total floor area of ​​6,503.92㎡.

Gyeongju City plans to convert the International Media Center into a general purpose building, while also installing a passageway connecting it to the Hwabaek Convention Center and creating a conference space on the second floor of the International Media Center. The city plans to complete the detailed design service this month and hold discussions with relevant departments in April regarding the conversion to a general purpose building.

Construction is scheduled to begin in November of this year, taking into account the schedule of international exhibitions and events, and is targeted for completion by April of next year.
