【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=경주시는 KTX경주역세권과 도심을 연결하는 지방도 904호선 광명~화천 구간을 오는 9일부터 단계적으로 개통한다고 8일 밝혔다.

이번 사업은 광명동에서 건천읍 화천리를 잇는 총연장 1.6㎞ 구간을 기존 협소한 도로에서 4차로로 확장하는 사업으로, 총사업비 211억 원이 투입된 경상북도 시행 사업이다. 현재 공정률은 약 95% 수준이다.

개통은 세 차례에 걸쳐 순차적으로 진행된다. 1차로 9일 광명삼거리에서 제1화천교까지 700m 구간이 개통되며, 이어 5월 12일 제1화천교부터 화천1리회관까지 500m 구간이 추가 개통된다. 이후 6월 30일 잔여 400m 구간까지 연결되면 전 구간이 완전 개통된다.

해당 도로는 광명삼거리에서 화천1리회관을 거쳐 신경주역세권으로 이어지는 주요 교통축으로, 선형 개선을 통해 통행 효율이 크게 향상될 것으로 기대된다.

특히 양성자과학연구단 등 인근 산업·연구시설 접근성이 개선되고, 역세권과 생활권을 연결하는 핵심 간선도로 역할을 수행할 전망이다.

경주시는 단계별 개통을 통해 공사 장기화에 따른 주민 불편을 최소화하고, 상습적인 교통 정체 해소와 교통사고 위험 감소에도 기여할 것으로 보고 있다.

In particular, accessibility to nearby industrial and research facilities, such as the Proton Science Research Complex, will be enhanced, and the road is expected to serve as a key arterial road connecting the station area with residential zones.

Gyeongju City anticipates that the phased opening will minimize inconvenience to residents caused by prolonged construction, while also contributing to the alleviation of chronic traffic congestion and a reduction in the risk of traffic accidents.

Choi Hyeok-jun, Acting Mayor of Gyeongju, stated, "The Gwangmyeong-Hwacheon Road is a key infrastructure facility connecting the Sin-Gyeongju Station area with the city center," adding, "We will ensure that citizens can experience the benefits of improved transportation conditions early through this phased opening."
