이어 그는 “지난 6월 이재명 정부의 첫 추가경정예산 심사 과정에서 영일만대교 건설사업비 1,821억 원이 전액 삭감된 것은 주민들에게 큰 실망과 허탈감을 안긴 결정이었다”며 “대통령 공약이자 경북의 숙원사업을 ‘불용 가능성’만으로 삭감한 것은 지역 정서를 전혀 고려하지 않은 처사”라고 비판했다.

다만 김 의원은 “최근 국토부가 내년도 예산안에 285억 원을 반영한 것은 사업 추진 의지를 보여주는 긍정적인 신호”라면서도 “KDI의 ‘사업계획 적정성 재검토’가 장기간 지연되고 있는 만큼 조속히 마무리돼야 한다”고 촉구했다.

그는 또 “KDI의 검토가 길어지는 것은 이해하지만, 속도 또한 완성도만큼 중요하다”며 “무엇보다 주민수용성, 즉 지역주민의 의견을 최우선으로 반영해야 한다”고 강조했다.

김 의원은 “국토부가 공청회 등 공식적인 주민 소통 절차를 통해 주민의 목소리를 직접 듣고, 주민이 응원할 수 있는 방식으로 사업을 추진해야 한다”며 “올해 안에 적정성 재검토를 마무리하고 설계 및 착공이 조속히 이뤄질 수 있도록 속도감 있게 추진해 달라”고 당부했다.

이에 대해 김윤덕 국토교통부 장관은 “취지에 공감하며 최선을 다하겠다”고 답변했다.
