울진군은 5일 군청에서 ㈜귀뚜라미와 ‘원자력 청정수소 산업 육성을 위한 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약은 국내 최대 원전 설비를 보유한 울진군의 원자력 기반 청정수소 생산 전략과 ㈜귀뚜라미의 수소 활용 에너지 기술력을 연계해 생산과 활용이 선순환하는 수소 산업 생태계를 구축하기 위해 추진됐다.

울진군은 현재 원자력 청정수소 국가산업단지 조성과 관련 인프라 구축 사업을 추진하며 원자력 기반 청정수소를 미래 핵심 전략 산업으로 육성하고 있다.

협약에 따라 양 기관은 ▲원자력 청정수소 산업 육성을 위한 행정·정책 협력 ▲수소 에너지 기반 활용 인프라 도입 지원 ▲수소 활용 신기술 개발 및 실증 사업 공동 참여 ▲연구개발(R&D) 및 전문인력 양성, 핵심부품 기술 국산화 등 산업 경쟁력 강화 분야에서 협력하기로 했다.

특히 ㈜귀뚜라미는 수소엔진 열병합발전시스템(CHP)과 수소 보일러 연소 제어 기술 등 보유 기술을 기반으로 수소 활용 모델 구축과 기술 실증에 참여할 예정이다. 이를 통해 원자력 기반 청정수소의 지역 내 활용 가능성을 단계적으로 확대해 나간다는 계획이다.

양 기관은 협약의 실효성을 높이기 위해 실무협의체를 구성하고 정기 협의를 통해 기술 실증과 산업 확산 과제를 체계적으로 추진할 방침이다.

울진군 관계자는 “울진은 풍부한 원전 인프라를 기반으로 원자력 청정수소 산업을 미래 성장동력으로 육성하고 있다”며 “민간 기업과의 협력을 통해 생산과 활용이 연계되는 자립형 수소 산업 기반을 구축하고 지역경제 활성화와 국가 탄소중립 실현에 기여하겠다”고 말했다.

Uljin County has partnered with an energy facility company to foster the nuclear-powered clean hydrogen industry.

Uljin County announced on the 5th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kiturami Co., Ltd. to foster the nuclear-powered clean hydrogen industry.

This agreement aims to build a hydrogen industry ecosystem where production and utilization are virtuous by linking Uljin County's nuclear-powered clean hydrogen production strategy, which boasts the largest nuclear power plant in Korea, with Kiturami Co., Ltd.'s hydrogen utilization energy technology.

Uljin County is currently pursuing the establishment of a nuclear-powered clean hydrogen national industrial complex and related infrastructure construction projects, fostering nuclear-powered clean hydrogen as a key future strategic industry.

Under the agreement, the two organizations agreed to collaborate in areas such as ▲administrative and policy cooperation to foster the nuclear clean hydrogen industry ▲support the introduction of hydrogen energy-based infrastructure ▲joint participation in the development and demonstration of new hydrogen-utilizing technologies ▲research and development (R&D), training of specialized personnel, and localization of core component technologies to enhance industrial competitiveness.

In particular, Kiturami Co., Ltd. will participate in the development of hydrogen utilization models and technology demonstrations, leveraging its proprietary technologies, including hydrogen engine combined heat and power (CHP) systems and hydrogen boiler combustion control technology. Through these efforts, the two organizations plan to gradually expand the potential for nuclear-based clean hydrogen in the region.

To enhance the effectiveness of the agreement, the two organizations will establish a working-level consultative body and hold regular consultations to systematically pursue technology demonstration and industrial expansion projects.

An Uljin County official said, “Uljin is fostering the nuclear clean hydrogen industry as a future growth engine based on its abundant nuclear power infrastructure,” and “Through cooperation with private companies, we will build a self-sufficient hydrogen industry base where production and utilization are linked, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy and the realization of national carbon neutrality.”
