【브레이크뉴스 울진】이우근 기자=울진군(군수 손병복) 국도 36호선 금강송면에 새롭게 문을 연 금강송 스마트복합쉼터(이하 금강송 쉼터)가 관광객들로 북적이며 지역의 새로운 명소로 떠오르고 있다.

금강송 쉼터는 2021년 국토교통부 스마트 복합쉼터 공모사업에 선정돼 총사업비 33억 원(국비 20억, 군비 13억)이 투입돼 조성됐다. 지난 6월 개장 이후 식당과 카페를 비롯해 화장실, 전기차 충전소, 휴게시설 등을 갖추며 운전자와 여행객에게 편안한 휴식 공간을 제공하고 있다.

특히 주목할 점은 지역 주민들이 직접 쉼터를 운영한다는 점이다. 쌍전1리 사회적협동조합이 운영을 맡아 주민 10여 명이 함께 식음료 제공과 시설 관리를 담당하며 자립적 운영 체계를 구축했다. 이를 통해 일자리 창출과 지역경제 활성화는 물론, 지속 가능한 상생 모델을 만들어가고 있다.

여름 성수기 주말에는 하루 2천여 명이 찾을 만큼 큰 호응을 얻고 있으며, 개장 초기 시행착오를 극복하고 안정적인 운영 체계를 확립해 가고 있다.

금강송 쉼터가 자리 잡기까지는 울진군의 시설 조성과 교육 지원, 그리고 조합원들의 뜨거운 열정과 단합이 밑거름이 됐다. 울진군과 주민이 함께 상생하는 모범 사례로서 가능성을 보여주고 있다는 평가다.

손병복 울진군수는 “금강송 쉼터는 단순한 휴게시설을 넘어 지역 주민과 함께 만드는 지속 가능한 관광 기반 시설이라는 점에서 의미가 크다”며 “앞으로도 농산물 판매, 지역 축제 개최 등 다양한 협력 사업을 추진해 지역경제 활성화에 보탬이 되도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.

The newly opened Geumgangsong Smart Complex Rest Area (hereinafter referred to as Geumgangsong Rest Area) in Geumgangsong-myeon, Uljin County (Governor Son Byeong-bok), along National Route 36, is bustling with tourists and emerging as a new local attraction.

Geumgangsong Rest Area was selected for the 2021 Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Smart Complex Rest Area Competition and was built with a total budget of 3.3 billion won (2 billion won from the national government and 1.3 billion won from the county). Since its opening in June, it has provided a comfortable resting space for drivers and travelers, featuring a restaurant, cafe, restrooms, electric vehicle charging stations, and rest areas.

Notably, the shelter is directly operated by local residents. The Ssangjeon 1-ri Social Cooperative is in charge of operation, with approximately 10 residents working together to provide food and beverages and manage the facility, establishing an independent operating system. During peak summer weekends, the shelter has been incredibly popular, attracting over 2,000 visitors per day. After overcoming initial trials and errors, the shelter has established a stable operational system.
