대구 메리어트 호텔은 메리어트 인터내셔널과 함께 이웃 사랑을 실천을 위해 입지 않는 옷과 신발, 인형, 이불 등을 자율적으로 모아 국내외 소외계층에게 기부하는 ‘옷캔(OTCAN)’ 캠페인에 동참했다.

옷캔은 한글 ‘옷’과 영어 ‘CAN’의 합성어로 ‘옷으로도 좋은 일을 할 수 있다’란 슬로건으로 활동하는 비영리 단체이다.

지난 1월 문을 연 대구 메리어트 호텔 이름으로 진행하는 첫 번째 사회 공헌 행사인 옷캔 캠페인에 전 직원들은 적극적으로 참여해 지난 3월 2일부터 3월 9일까지 모인 의류 등은 총 180점이 넘는다.

이렇게 모인 의류 등은 호텔에서 1차 선별작업을 거친 뒤 택배를 통해 오는 3월 18일 옷캔으로 전달될 예정이다.

대구 메리어트 호텔 인사부 김미리 과장은 “작은 기부로 이웃 사랑을 실천함과 동시에 지속가능한 환경과 미래를 위해서도 의미 있는 옷캔 캠페인에 많은 직원들이 참여할 수 있어 기쁘다”며 “앞으로도 지역 사회에 보탬이 될 수 있는 다양한 사회 공헌 활동을 펼치겠다”고 전했다.
