지난 24일 제정연대는 대구·경북 광역단체장과 교육감 후보를 대상으로 혐오 차별 방지 및 인권 증진에 대한 설문 질의를 한 결과를 발표했다.

제정연대 발표에 따르면 엄 후보는 제정연대의 질의에 긍정적인 답변을 내놨다. 

하지만 하루 만인 25일 엄 후보 선대본은 보도자료를 통해 “언론보도에 따르면 엄 후보가 이에(차별반대 인권의식 설문조사) 동의한 것으로 나타나 있다. 그러나 엄 후보와 선대본은 ‘답변하지 않는다는 입장’을 사전에 정했다”고 설명하며 “공보담당자가 선거대책본부 입장을 확인하지 못한 채 개인 의견을 보내는 실수를 범했다”고 밝혔다.

이에 대해 대구경북차별금지법제정연대는 “엄창옥 후보의 정정보도에 당혹스러움과 실망을 감출수 없다"며“대구경북 시도민과 사회적 소수자에 대한 차별반대와 인권증진의 염원이 교육행정에 온전히 반영되기를 기대했다”고 말했다.

이어 “답변을 거부하는 것은 인권증진과 혐오 차별에 반대하는 기본적인 교육철학이 결여된 것으로 교육 행정의 수장으로 자격미달”이라며"엄 후보의 ‘모두가 빛나는 대구교육’이라는 선거 슬로건은 차별을 반대하고 누구도 배제되어서는 안된다는 교육철학이 담긴 것이어서 더욱 자괴감이 든다”고 지적했다.
