이날 오전 전체의원 충혼탑 참배 후 9시에 본회의장에서 열린 제223회 임시회에서 12명(비례대표 2명 포함)의 의원은 제1차 본회의를 통해 전반기 2년 영천시의회를 이끌어 갈 의장단 선거를 실시했다.

선거결과 의장으로는 다 선거구가 지역구인 하기태 의원(국민의힘, 초선)이, 부의장으로는 가 선거구가 지역구인 우애자 의원(국민의힘, 2선)이 선출되었다.

오후 2시에는 최기문 영천시장을 비롯한 집행부 간부 공무원들이 참석한 가운데 개원식이 진행되어 제9대 영천시의회의 시작을 알렸다.

하기태 영천시의회 의장은 개원사에서 “오늘 이 자리는 지방자치의 참된 의미를 되새기고, 의원으로서의 직무를 무겁게 느끼면서 각오를 새롭게 다짐하는 자리”라며 “새로운 결의를 다지며 출범하는 제9대 영천시의회는 앞으로 시민 여러분께 희망과 기쁨의 메시지를 전달하는 민의의 전당으로 거듭날 것을 약속드린다.”고 밝혔다.

한편 영천시의회는 오는 18일 제224회 임시회를 개의하고 2022년 하반기 주요업무보고를 받는 등 본격적인 의정활동에 돌입한다.
