【브레이크뉴스 경주】박영재 기자=전국 최대 규모 유소년 축구 꿈나무 등용문 ‘2022 화랑대기 전국 유소년축구대회’가 2일 개회식을 시작으로 19일간의 열전에 돌입한다.

2일 경주시에 따르면 이날 경주HICO에서 열리는 개회식에는 주낙영 경주시장과 이철우 시의장을 비롯해 정몽규 대한축구협회장, 김병지 대한축구협회부회장, 손영훈 경주시축구협회장 직무대행 및 선수와 지도자 등 200여 명이 참석한다.

올해로 19회째를 맞는 이번 대회는 전국 학교·클럽에서 800개 팀 1만 2000여명이 출전해 축구공원을 비롯한 9개 구장에서 경쟁을 펼친다.

1·2차로 나눠 경기가 치러지며, 1차는 3일부터 8일까지, 2차는 11일부터 16일까지 개최된다.

시는 대회를 앞두고 시설관리공단·도시공원과·화랑마을과 함께 천연잔디구장을 꼼꼼히 점검·관리하며 최상의 컨디션을 유지하고 있다.

폭염 속 대회가 진행되는 만큼 대회안전과 차질 없는 진행을 위해 의료진 및 경기요원을 확보하고, 코로나19 예방을 위한 경기장 방역요원 을 투입해 대회 준비에 만전을 기하고 있다.

특히 올해 대회는 문화체험이 공존하는 대회가 모토로 기존 성적 위주에서 벗어나 유소년 선수들이 축구를 더욱 쉽게 접근하게끔 하는데 주안점을 뒀다.

19일부터 21일까지 2박 3일간 경주 일원에서 열리는 대한축구협회 주최·주관 ‘아이리그(i-League) 여름축구축제’가 바로 그것.

유소년 선수들을 위한 체험 이벤트로 △수중축구 △3:3 축구배틀존 △바자회운영 등 다양한 프로그램이 진행될 예정이어서 어느 해보다 풍성한 대회가 될 전망이다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “학부모·관람객과 함께하는 대회를 다시 진행할 수 있어 매우 기쁘고 안전하고 성공적인 대회를 위해 만반의 준비를 마쳤다”며 “이번 대회가 미래 대한민국 축구 꿈나무 육성의 메카로 자리매김할 수 있도록 경주시 차원의 모든 행정 역량을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.
