시 관계자에 따르면 영천시는 영천댐상류 하수도정비사업과 하수처리구역 확대 등으로 금호강 수질개선사업을 지속적으로 추진하여 왔으며, 마을하수처리장 신설로 주민생활환경이 크게 개선된 것으로 평가됐다.

2019년에도 최우수기관상을 수상한 바 있어 이번 최우수기관 선정으로 영천시는 더 큰 영예를 가지게 되었다.

특히 그동안 영천댐 상류지역에 하수처리시설이 없어 생활하수가 식수원인 영천댐으로 그대로 유입된 상황에서 중앙정부를 방문하여 필요성을 설명하였고 사업비 464억원의 정비사업을 시행하는 성과를 거두었다.

최기문 영천시장은 “시민들이 보다 쾌적한 생활환경속에서 살아갈 수 있도록 하수처리장의 효율적인 운영과 하수관거 설치 및 정비사업 등을 통해 그린영천, 살기 좋은 영천 만들기에 앞장서겠다”고 밝혔다.
