24일 가스공사에 따르면 한국가스공사는 지난해 2월 LNG 냉열 고객사인 ‘한국초저온(대표이사 김덕원)’과 방법론 개발을 위한 협약을 체결한 후, 1년여 간의 정부 협의를 거쳐 올해 3월 환경부 인증위원회로부터 최종 승인을 받았다.

이 방법론에 따라, 가스공사 평택생산기지의 LNG냉열을 활용한 냉동·냉장 물류창고 사업에서 매년 약 7백 톤의 온실가스가 감축*되고, 가스공사는 향후 10년 간 약 1천 4백 톤의 배출권을 확보할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

방법론은 환경부 상쇄등록부시스템(ors.gir.go.kr)에 공개되어 사업자누구나 활용할 수 있으며, 이는 데이터 센터 등 저온유지가 필요한 냉열사업 활성화와국가 온실가스를 감축에도 기여할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

가스공사 관계자는 “이번 방법론 마련은 가스공사가 LNG냉열 고객사와 협력해 국가 온실가스 감축 성과를 거둔 상생혁신 모델의좋은 선례”라며, “가스공사는 앞으로도 다양한 온실가스 감축사업을추진해 친환경 기업으로 거듭나겠다”고 말했다.
