【브레이크뉴스 】박은정 기자=한국가스공사(사장 최연혜)는 ‘LNG선 5,000번째 입항 달성’을 축하하는 기념식을 개최했다고 27일 밝혔다.

이날 행사에는 최연혜 가스공사 사장과 이규봉 현대엘엔지해운 대표이사를 비롯한 양사 관계자 및 선박 승조원 등 약 40여 명이 참석했다.

LNG선이 5,000회에 걸쳐 평택에 천연가스를 수송한 거리를 모두 합하면 약 9천만km로, 이는 지구를 2,259바퀴 돌 수 있는 수준이다.

‘우리나라 최초 LNG 인수기지’인 평택 LNG 기지는 지난 1986년 인도네시아산 천연가스를 평택화력발전소에, 이듬해부터 수도권에 본격 공급함으로써 국내 천연가스 산업 시대를 열었다. 

 특히, 공공에너지 분야 최장·최고 무재해 달성 기록을 보유한 평택 LNG 기지는 1986년 11월 국내 첫 LNG선(Golar Sprit호) 입항 후 지난 37년간 단 한 건의 안전사고 없이 ‘무재해 5,000항차 입항’을 달성했다.

한국가스공사 최연혜 사장은 “천연가스가 국내에 첫 발을 디딘 평택 LNG 기지는 대한민국 천연가스 산업의 자랑스러운 역사 그 자체”라며, “가스공사는 앞으로도 모든 임직원이 합심해 LNG 산업의 든든한 역군이자 국민 여러분께 따뜻함을 전달하는 에너지 파수꾼으로서 국민 삶의 질 향상과 국가 발전에 기여하겠다”고 밝혔다.

  The Pyeongtaek LNG Base, ‘the first LNG receiving base in Korea’, opened the era of the domestic natural gas industry by supplying natural gas from Indonesia to the Pyeongtaek Thermal Power Plant in 1986 and to the metropolitan area in earnest the following year.

  In particular, the Pyeongtaek LNG Base, which has the longest and highest accident-free record in the public energy sector, has achieved '5,000 accident-free voyages of entry' without a single safety accident for the past 37 years since the first LNG carrier (Golar Spirit) entered the port in November 1986. .
