독립운동가 유족, 기관･단체장, 시민 등 180여 명이 참석한 가운데 이날 행사는 국민의례를 시작으로 순국선열 추념문 낭독, 제2회 대구호국보훈대상 시상, 기념사, 특별공연, 만세삼창 순으로 진행됐다. 

기념식에 앞서 국립신암선열공원에서는 홍준표 대구시장을 비롯한 시의회 의장, 기관단체장, 보훈단체장 등 30여 명이 참석한 가운데 순국선열의 애국애족 정신을 기리는 참배 행사를 가졌다.

행사의 의미를 더하기 위해 대구호국보훈대상을 선정해 수상했으며, 독립부문 수상자로는 일제 강점기 국내항일운동에 헌신하신 권중혁 애국지사님이 선정됐다.

 호국부문은 베트남전 참전용사이며 지역 봉사활동으로 보훈발전에 공로가 있는 차대근님이, 단체부문은 보훈음악회 개최, 국가유공자 장례의전 선양단 운영 등 보훈가족 사랑을 실천하고 있는 무공수훈자회 대구지부가 수상했다.
