【브레이크뉴스 성주】이성현 기자=성주군(군수 이병환)이 저출생과전쟁, 지방인구소멸 대응을 위해 추진중인 ‘어린이집 원어민(외국인) 영어 특성화 교육사업’이 부모들로 부터 큰 호응을 받고 있다.
21일 성주군에 따르면 군은 4대 분야(양육,돌봄,교육,주거) 출산 지원 정책을 마련하여 발굴 시행 중이며, 교육분야 투자로 영유아·초·중·고등학생을 위한‘E(nglish)-편한 도시 성주’ 사업을 추진하고 있다.
첫 단계인 영유아 대상 ‘어린이집 원어민(외국인) 영어 특성화 사업’은 군내 모든 어린이집에서 원어민 영어교육을 받을 수 있고 생활영어, 교구 활용 특별수업 등 다양한 형태로 진행하고 있다.
캐나다, 필리핀, 카메룬 등 다국적의 외국인 영어교사와 함께 놀이 활동 형태의 학습으로 영유아가 쉽게 외국어를 접할 수 있어 부모의 호응이 높다. 초등학교 입학 이후는 성주영어체험센터를 통해지속적인 영어교육을 지원하고 있다.
성주군 관계자는 ‘글로벌 리더로 성장하기 위한 첫걸음의 발판을 마련해 주고, 학령기 아동이 생활 속에서 영어를 접할 수 있는 환경 조성으로아이키우기 좋은 성주 만들기에 최선을 다하고 있다’고 밝혔다.

Parents' response is high as infants and toddlers can easily learn foreign languages through play-based learning with foreign English teachers from countries such as Canada, the Philippines, and Cameroon. After entering elementary school, continuous English education is supported through the Seongju English Experience Center.
A Seongju-gun official said, ‘We are doing our best to make Seongju a good place to raise children by providing the first step toward growing into a global leader and creating an environment where school-aged children can have access to English in their daily lives.’
