이번 협약을 통해 성주군은 베트남을 새로운 파트너 국가로 확보하며 안정적인 외국인 계절근로자 수급 기반을 더욱 강화하게 됐다. 성주군 관계자는 “협득군을 시작으로 베트남 타이빈성, 박깐성과도 추가 협약을 체결할 계획”이라며 “베트남과의 협력을 통해 향후 계절근로자 인력 수급에 차질이 없도록 만반의 준비를 갖췄다”고 설명했다.

성주군은 2017년부터 필리핀 5개 지자체 및 라오스 노동사회복지부와 업무협약을 체결하고 꾸준히 계절근로자를 선발·유치해 왔으며, 베트남과의 업무협약은 이번이 처음이다.

외국인 계절근로자 프로그램은 단기간에 집중적인 인력이 필요한 농업 분야에서 외국인을 합법적으로 고용할 수 있도록 마련된 제도로, 성주군은 2023년 531명, 2024년 932명, 2025년에는 1,400명의 외국인 계절근로자를 유치하는 등 수요가 매년 큰 폭으로 증가하고 있다.

이병환 성주군수는 “해마다 증가하는 계절근로자 수요에 적극 대응하고, 인력 다변화와 안정적인 확보를 위해 이번 협약을 추진했다”며 “이번 협약이 일손 부족으로 어려움을 겪고 있는 농업 현장에 실질적인 도움이 되길 기대한다”고 말했다.
