봉화군에 따르면 국가유산수리재료센터는 358억원이 투입돼 부지면적 25만㎡에 연면적 1만㎡ 규모로 수리재료 보관동, 사무동, 연구동, 관사동 등 4개 건물과 부재 야적장 등의 시설을 갖췄다.

이 센터는 재료 생산이 단절되거나 가격이 급등해서 수급이 어려운 수리 재료를 매년 전략적으로 비축하게 되며 현재 수급 불균형 재료는 지름 등 규격이 큰 국내산 소나무 특대재(特大材), 자연곡재(自然曲材), 싸리나무, 강과 산 등에서 채취하는 자연석, 초가지붕의 이엉에 적합한 볏짚, 구들장용 판석(板石), 굴피(屈皮) 등이다.

박현국 봉화군수는 “2019년 경상북도과 함께 전통 재료의 수급 관리, 보급 확대 및 산업화 지원을 위한 전문기관 건립을 국가유산청에 건의했다”며 “센터가 들어선 만큼, 국가적으로는 국가유산 복원을 원활히 하고 지역적으로는 일자리 창출과 인구 유입에 의한 지역경제 활성화가 기대된다”고 말했다.
