이번 주간은 교원의 교육권과 학생의 학습권을 동시에 보호하고, 교육활동 침해를 예방하자는 취지로 마련됐다.
교육청은 교원에 대한 존중 분위기를 조성하고 교원-학생-학부모 간 신뢰 회복을 목표로 다양한 프로그램을 운영한다. 각 학교에서는 교권 존중 캠페인과 교육활동 보호 글쓰기, 포스터 대회, 사제 간 편지 쓰기, 사제 동행 체육대회 등 행사를 자유롭게 추진한다. 특히 학생과 학부모를 대상으로 한 교육활동 침해 예방 교육과, 교원을 위한 보호 연수도 권장된다.
교육지원청 차원에서도 캠페인과 토론회를 열고, 침해 사안이 자주 발생한 학교에는 컨설팅을 제공한다. 피해 교원에게는 치료와 심리상담을, 가해 학생과 학부모에게는 별도 교육과 상담을 지원하는 등 대응 체계도 강화할 방침이다.
이번 계획은 ‘교원의 지위 향상 및 교육활동 보호를 위한 특별법’과 시행령을 근거로 하며, 한국교육개발원 교육활동보호센터 홈페이지 등을 통해 관련 자료도 제공된다.
김기활 중등교육과장은 “교원들이 자긍심을 갖고 수업에 전념할 수 있도록 보호체계를 계속 강화하겠다”며 “교사와 학생, 학부모가 서로 존중하며 함께 성장하는 학교 공동체 조성을 위해 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.
