이날 현장방문은 국제문화교류관이 당초 설립 취지와 달리 충분히 활용되지 못하고 있다는 시민들의 지적에 따라 이뤄졌다.

이날 위원들은 국제문화교류관의 공간 구성과 프로그램 운영, 시민 이용 현황 등을 꼼꼼히 살폈다. 특히, 교류관이 단순 행사 공간이나 회의실 등으로 제한적으로 사용되고 있으며, 국제 교류 활성화라는 본래 목적에 비해 활용도가 낮다는 점을 지적했다.

이경희 위원장은 "국제문화교류관이 앞으로 국제 문화 교류와 시민 참여의 거점 공간으로 본래 취지에 맞게 적극적으로 활용될 수 있도록 집행부에 개선 방안을 질의했다"며, "다양한 국제 교류 프로그램과 시민 참여 행사의 확대를 요청할 계획"이라고 밝혔다.

행정복지위원회는 앞으로 국제문화교류관이 경주시의 국제적 위상 제고와 지역사회 문화 발전에 기여할 수 있도록 지속적인 점검과 지원을 이어갈 방침이다.

Chairperson Lee Kyung-hee stated, “We have asked the executive branch for improvement measures so that the International Cultural Exchange Center can be actively utilized in accordance with its original purpose as a hub for international cultural exchange and citizen participation in the future,” and “We plan to request the expansion of various international exchange programs and citizen participation events.”

The Administrative Welfare Committee plans to continue to monitor and support the International Cultural Exchange Center so that it can contribute to enhancing the international status of Gyeongju City and developing local culture.
