【브레이크뉴스 문경】이성현 기자=박열 의사 기념사업회(이사장 서원)는 7월 23일 문경시 마성면에 위치한 박열 의사 기념공원 내 가네코 후미코 여사 묘소 앞에서 ‘가네코 후미코 여사 제99주기 추모식’을 엄숙히 거행했다.

이날 추모식에는 김대식 문경 부시장과 이정걸 문경시의회 의장을 비롯해 시·도의원, 이경옥 문경교육지원청 교육장, 이홍균 경북북부보훈지청장, 정대영 광복회 경북지부장, 지역 보훈·안보 단체장, 시민 등 200여 명이 참석해 항일 독립운동가 가네코 여사의 숭고한 정신을 기렸다.

특히 문경 동성초등학교(교장 김영호) 전 교직원과 전교생 18명이 모두 참여해 눈길을 끌었으며, 가네코 여사가 한국 생활 7년을 보낸 세종시 부강의 가네코 후미코 선양사업회(회장 이규상) 회원들도 자리를 함께해 의미를 더했다.

식전 행사로는 이상배 화백의 묵화 퍼포먼스 ‘풍년화’가 펼쳐졌고, 문경문화원 하모니카 동아리 이미희 회장이 여사의 애창곡인 ‘봉선화’, ‘고향의 봄’을 연주해 참석자들의 가슴을 울렸다.

공식 추모식은 국민의례, 회고사, 주요 인사 추념사, 헌시 낭독, 헌화·분향 및 헌작, 만세삼창 등의 순으로 진행됐으며, 마지막으로 이규상 회장이 여사의 한국 생활 7년을 조명한 사진 전시를 직접 설명해 참가자들의 깊은 공감을 이끌어냈다.

가네코 후미코 여사는 1912년부터 1919년까지 한국에 거주하며 조선에 대한 식민통치의 부당함을 인식하게 되었고, 일본 귀국 후 박열 의사와 함께 아나키스트로 독립운동에 헌신했다. 1923년 히로히토 왕세자 암살 모의 혐의로 체포돼 대역죄로 사형을 선고받았으나 무기징역으로 감형, 이듬해 우쓰노미야 형무소에서 23세에 생을 마감했다.

그의 공로는 2018년, 박열 의사와 함께 대한민국 건국훈장 애국장을 추서받으며 독립유공자로 인정받았다. 일본인으로서는 후세 다츠지 변호사와 함께 유이한 사례다.

서원 이사장은 추념사에서 “일본인이지만 조선의 독립을 위해 모든 것을 바친 가네코 여사의 나라 사랑 정신은 지금도 큰 울림을 주고 있다”며, “그 정신을 지역과 나라의 발전을 위한 에너지로 승화시키자”고 강조했다.

On July 23, the Park Yeol Memorial Society (Chairman Seo Won) solemnly held the ‘99th Anniversary Memorial Service for Mrs. Fumiko Kaneko’ in front of the grave of Mrs. Fumiko Kaneko in the Park Yeol Memorial Park located in Maseong-myeon, Mungyeong-si.

On this day, approximately 200 people attended the memorial service, including Vice Mayor of Mungyeong Kim Dae-sik, Chairman of the Mungyeong City Council Lee Jeong-geol, city and provincial council members, Superintendent of Education Lee Gyeong-ok of the Mungyeong Office of Education, Director of the Gyeongbuk Northern Veterans Affairs Office Lee Hong-gyun, Director of the Gyeongbuk Branch of the Korean Liberation Association Jeong Dae-yeong, heads of local veterans and security organizations, and citizens, to pay tribute to the noble spirit of anti-Japanese independence activist Mrs. Kaneko.

In particular, all 18 faculty members and students of Mungyeong Dongseong Elementary School (Principal Kim Young-ho) participated, drawing attention, and members of the Sejong City Bugang Kaneko Fumiko Promotion Association (Chairman Lee Gyu-sang), where Mrs. Kaneko spent seven years in Korea, also attended, adding to the meaning.

As a pre-ceremony, a performance of ink painting titled “Pungnyeonhwa” by artist Lee Sang-bae was performed, and Lee Mi-hee, the president of the Mungyeong Cultural Center Harmonica Club, played Mrs. Kaneko’s favorite songs, “Balsamhwa” and “Spring in Hometown,” touching the hearts of the attendees.

The official memorial service proceeded in the following order: national anthem, reminiscence, memorial speeches by key figures, poetry readings, flower and incense offerings, and three cheers. Finally, Chairman Lee Gyu-sang personally explained the photo exhibition highlighting Mrs. Kaneko’s seven years in Korea, drawing deep sympathy from the participants.

Mrs. Fumiko Kaneko lived in Korea from 1912 to 1919, and came to recognize the injustice of colonial rule over Joseon. After returning to Japan, she devoted herself to the independence movement as an anarchist with Dr. Park Yeol. In 1923, she was arrested on charges of plotting to assassinate Crown Prince Hirohito and sentenced to death for treason, but her sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. The following year, she died at the age of 23 in Utsunomiya Prison.

In 2018, she was recognized as a person of merit for independence by receiving the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotic Medal, along with Dr. Park Yeol. She is the only Japanese person to receive this honor, along with Attorney Tatsuji Fuse.

In his memorial speech, Chairman Seowon emphasized, “Although she is Japanese, Mrs. Kaneko’s spirit of love for her country, who devoted everything for Joseon’s independence, still resonates greatly even today,” and “Let’s sublimate that spirit into energy for the development of the region and the country.”
