【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=한국교원단체총연합회(교총)와 대구광역시교원단체총연합회(대구교총)가 최근 대구 한 중학교에서 발생한 교원 폭행 사건과 관련해 강력한 처벌을 촉구하는 입장을 밝혔다.

지난 1일 대구지방법원은 자녀 문제로 학교를 찾아 교장에게 급식판을 던지고 폭행한 학부모에게 징역 1년 6개월에 집행유예 3년을 선고했다.

이와 관련해 교총은 "교육활동 중 교원에 대한 폭행은 어떤 이유로도 정당화될 수 없는 범죄행위"라며 "피해 교원은 물론 학생과 교직원 모두에게 깊은 상처를 남기고 교육공동체 전체를 위협하는 심각한 사안"이라고 지적했다.

특히 "교권 침해는 일반 범죄보다 더 무겁게 처벌하는 가중 규정이 마련돼야 하며, 공무집행방해죄와 동일한 수준으로 다뤄져야 한다"고 강조했다.

교총은 교권 보호 강화를 위해 교원지위법 개정을 통한 교원 상해·폭행 가중처벌 도입, 피해 교원을 위한 긴급 보호조치 제도 신설, 스쿨폴리스 1학교 1인 이상 의무 배치 확대, 심각한 교권 침해 사안의 학생부 기재 제도화, 학생·학부모 대상 예방 교육 강화 등의 제도 개선 방안을 제시했다.

교총이 교육부의 '2024학년도 교육활동 침해 실태조사'를 인용한 자료에 따르면, 지난해 교권 침해 사건이 총 4,234건 발생했으며, 교원 상해·폭행은 하루 평균 1.4건꼴로 지속되고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

또한 교총이 올해 스승의 날을 맞아 전국 교원 5,591명을 대상으로 실시한 설문조사에서는 응답자의 99.3%가 학부모·학생의 교원 폭행에 대한 가중처벌 규정이 필요하다고 답했다.

강주호 교총 회장은 "학교에서 상상하기 어려운 폭력이 반복되는 현실은 교권 위기를 넘어 교육 위기 그 자체"라며 "교육 당국은 교권 보호를 위한 실효성 있는 법적 장치 마련에 즉각 나서야 한다"고 강력히 촉구했다.
