【브레이크뉴스 울진】이우근 기자=한국수력원자력 한울원자력본부(본부장 이세용)는 지난 12월 16일부터 18일까지 울진군 지역 초등학생 4·5학년 418명을 대상으로 체험형 과학 교육 프로그램인 ‘2025년도 한울본부 아톰공학교실’을 운영했다고 밝혔다.

이번 프로그램에는 지역 내 초등학교 4개교가 참여했으며, ‘자석의 힘으로 떠가는 열차 만들기’, ‘블루투스 스피커 만들기’ 등 학생들의 흥미를 끌 수 있는 실습 중심 교육이 진행됐다. 한울본부 직원들이 일일교사로 참여해 학생 눈높이에 맞춘 설명으로 과학 원리를 전달하고, 키트 조립 실습을 통해 전자공학의 기초 개념을 쉽고 재미있게 이해할 수 있도록 도왔다.

수업에 참여한 한 학생은 “책에서만 보던 자기부상열차를 직접 만들어 볼 수 있어 신기했다”며 “내년에도 친구들과 함께 다시 참여하고 싶다”고 소감을 전했다. 일일교사로 참여한 한울본부 직원 역시 “호기심 가득한 아이들과 함께하며 설명을 통해 아이들의 지식이 확장되는 과정을 직접 느낄 수 있어 매우 보람됐다”며 “3년간 이어온 지원인 만큼 앞으로도 계속 참여하고 싶다”고 말했다.

이세용 한울원자력본부장은 “이번 프로그램을 통해 울진 지역 아이들이 과학이라는 미지의 세계를 보다 친근하게 이해하고 공감하는 계기가 되었기를 바란다”며 “앞으로도 아이들이 관심을 가질 수 있는 다양한 주제를 발굴해 더욱 재미있고 의미 있는 과학 체험 교육을 이어가겠다”고 밝혔다.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) Hanul Nuclear Power Plant (Director Lee Se-yong) announced that it operated the "2025 Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Atom Engineering Class," an experiential science education program, from December 16th to 18th for 418 4th and 5th grade elementary school students in Uljin County.

Four local elementary schools participated in the program, which featured hands-on activities designed to capture students' interest, such as "Making a Train That Floats Using Magnetic Power" and "Making a Bluetooth Speaker." Hanul Nuclear Power Plant staff served as daily instructors, providing explanations tailored to the students' level of understanding and explaining scientific principles. Through hands-on kit assembly, the participants helped students understand the fundamental concepts of electronic engineering in an easy and fun way.

One student commented, "It was fascinating to build a magnetic levitation train, something I'd only seen in books. I hope to participate again next year with my friends." A Hanul Headquarters employee who participated as a daily teacher also said, "It was incredibly rewarding to be able to work with these curious children and directly witness their knowledge expand through explanations. Since this program has been ongoing for three years, I hope to continue participating in the program."
