이번 장학금 수여는 2017년부터 추진해 온 지역 체육인재 육성 사업의 일환으로, 학업과 훈련을 병행하며 우수한 성과를 거둔 학생들을 격려하기 위해 마련됐다. 장학생으로 선정된 체육특기생들은 전국사격대회와 전국고등축구 스플릿리그 등 각종 전국 단위 대회에서 뛰어난 성적을 거두며 지역의 위상을 높였다.

이세용 한울원자력본부장은 “이번 장학금이 체육특기생들이 안정적인 환경에서 운동에 전념할 수 있는 든든한 기반이 되길 바란다”며 “지역과 백 년을 함께하는 기업으로서 앞으로도 지역 인재들이 역량을 마음껏 펼칠 수 있도록 지속적인 응원과 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.

한울원자력본부는 앞으로도 지역 청소년과 체육 인재를 대상으로 한 다양한 지원 사업을 통해 지역사회와의 상생을 이어갈 계획이다.
