해당 근로자는 작업 도중 어지러움과 흉통을 느껴 울진군의료원에서 1차 진료를 받았으며, 검사 결과 심혈관질환이 의심돼 즉각 상급 의료기관 이송이 결정됐다. 이후 안동병원 응급 의료진이 탑승한 닥터헬기가 투입돼 환자는 신속히 안동병원으로 이송됐으며, 현재 치료를 받으며 회복 중이다.

이번 이송 사례는 한울본부와 신한울 3·4호기 시공사인 현대건설 컨소시엄, 안동병원이 구축한 응급 대응 시스템이 처음으로 가동된 사례다. 특히 지난 5월 체결된 응급 이송 체계 업무협약(MOU)이 실제 생명 구조로 이어졌다는 점에서 의미가 크다.

또한 당일 차량 이동 시 1시간 30분 이상 소요되는 거리를 닥터헬기는 약 25분 만에 이동해, 지역 내 응급 의료 사각지대를 해소하는 역할을 입증했다는 평가다.
