【브레이크뉴스 대구】박은정 기자= 대구시는 글로벌 자동차부품기업인 프랑스 발레오사(대표 크리스토퍼 페리엣)와 투자유치 협약을 체결했다고 26일 밝혔다.
발레오社는 1923년 설립, 프랑스에서 본사를 두고 전 세계 31개국에 184개 제조공장, 64개 R&D 센터, 16개 유통플랫폼을 보유하고 있는 글로벌 자동차부품기업이다.
이번 투자결정의 배경에는 국내 최고 수준의 자율주행차 실증 및 연구개발을 위한 인프라, 로봇, AI, 빅데이터 등 ABB 산업과 연계할 수 있는 확장성, 고객사와의 접근성, 안정적 노사환경 등 대구의 뛰어난 입지적 강점이 크게 작용했다.
발레오는 이번 투자협약을 통해 대구에 (가칭)발레오모빌리티코리아 외투법인을 신설, 2024년 양산을 목표로 총 5,600만불(728억원 정도)을 투자해 대구국가산업단지 1단계 내 미래형자동차부지 4,000평 규모에 ADAS(첨단보조주행장치) 자율주행용 인지센서 및 조향센서등을 개발·양산할 계획이다.
이번 협약식에 참석한 스티브 스무댜 발레오 ADAS사업본부 CEO는 “대구는 자동차부품 생산기반이 우수하고 산학협력 체계가 잘 갖추어져 있어 지역의 계명대학교와 협력, 대학원생 현지 인턴십(한국/유럽 발레오) 프로그램 등을 추진할 계획이다”며, “앞으로 발레오의 역량과 기술을 집중적으로 투자해 발레오모빌리티코리아의 신사업이 성공적으로 전개될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
홍준표 대구시장은 “먼저 발레오社에 진심으로 감사의 말씀을 드리고 대구시는 신규 투자사업에 필요한 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”며, “지역 협력사와의 기술지원, 글로벌시장 동반 진출, 지방인재 양성·채용 등 지역경제 활성화에 기여함과 동시에, 앞으로 대구의 미래모빌리티 산업을 이끄는 견인차 역할을 충실히 해줄 것으로 기대한다”고 전했다.
