이날 시승 행사는 경북도의 첫 자율주행 시범운행지구로 신청한 도청 신도시에서 자율주행 단계(0~5단계) 중 3단계(조건부자동화) 기술 수준의 셔틀버스 시험운행 출발을 알리고, 실제 탑승을 통한 자율주행 기술 체감을 위해 마련됐다.

이날 시승행사를 시작으로 1대의 셔틀버스가 5월 16일까지 1개월간 주 5회(평일) 실증운행(도청~경북개발공사, 8km 구간)할 예정이며, 시험운행 후 운행 구간 및 운행 횟수를 점차 확대해 나갈 계획이다.
