이번 사업은 지난 4월에 착공에 들어가 이달 말 설치를 모두 마쳤으며 특히 최근 공사가 마무리된 탐방로와 어우러져 일몰 후 이곳을 찾는 시민과 관광객들에게 아름다운 야경을 선사하게 될 전망이다.

앞서 시는 황룡사 역사문화관 북서편 2만 2300㎡에 탐방로를 포함한 잔디광장과 산책로를 조성한 바 있다.

다채로운 볼거리 중 황룡사 9층 목탑을 옆으로 눕혀 놓은 형상의 65m 규모 탐방로가 단연 압권인데, 이곳에 야경을 밝혀줄 조명등이 추가되면서 지역의 새로운 명소가 될 것으로 기대가 모아진다.

황룡사는 신라 진흥왕 때 만들어진 최대 사찰이었지만 고려 13세기 몽고의 침입으로 불 타 현재는 터만 남아 있는 상황이다.

다음달 1일 ‘황룡사지’ 탐방로 조명등 정식 운용을 앞두고 주낙영 경주시장은 지난 23일 밤 조성 현장을 찾아 시민과 관광객들의 눈높이에서 시설을 직접 점검했다.

이 자리에서 주낙영 시장은 “천년고도 경주의 황룡사지에 경관조명이 설치되면서 은은한 조명이 분황사 코스모스와 어우러져 아름다운 경주의 가을밤을 찾는 시민과 관광객이 많을 것으로 예상된다”며 “경주시는 앞으로도 시민과 경주를 찾는 관광객들의 좀 더 나은 문화재 관람환경을 위해 행정력을 집중하겠다”고 강조했다.

황룡사지 탐방로 경관조명 점등시간은 일몰 후부터 오후 11까지이며, 보다 자세한 사항은 경주시 왕경조성과로 문의하면 된다.

한편 경주시는 황룡사 복원 사업의 본격적인 추진을 위해 ‘황룡사지 진입부 기단 정비공사와 남쪽광장 정비사업’ 착공 시점을 문화재청과 협의하고 있다.

We will focus our administrative power to create a better environment for viewing cultural assets.”

Meanwhile, Gyeongju City is negotiating with the Cultural Heritage Administration the timing of the start of the 'base maintenance work at the entrance to Hwangnyongsa site and the south plaza maintenance project' for the full-fledged promotion of the Hwangnyongsa restoration project.
