【브레이크뉴스 대구】박은정 기자=대구시는 지역의 유망 의료기기 스타트업인 주식회사 ㈜빔웍스(대표 김원화)가 개발한 초음파 유방암 실시간 인공지능 진단 시스템 ‘캐디-B’가 식품의약품안전처로부터 혁신의료기기 지정을 받았다고 7일 밝혔다.

‘캐디-B’는 세계 최초로 동적 초음파 영상으로 유방암을 진단하는 인공지능 기반의 소프트웨어 의료기기로 차별성과 우수성을 인정받아 이번에 식약처로부터 혁신의료기기로 지정받았다.

혁신의료기기로 지정되면, 인허가 시 다른 의료기기보다 우선해 심사하거나 개발 단계별로 나누어 동시에 심사하는 등 특례가 적용되며 인허가 후에는 비급여 또는 선별급여로 신속하게 의료 현장에서 활용할 수 있어 혁신 기술 보급과 매출 실현을 앞당길 수 있다.

또 의료기기산업법에 따른 혁신형 의료기기 기업 인증을 받을 수 있게 되어, 앞으로 정부의 R&D/시장진출 지원사업에 참여하거나 정책적 지원 등에 있어서 다양한 혜택을 받을 수 있게 된다. 현재 전국에는 23개 제품이 혁신의료기기로 지정돼 있다.

㈜빔웍스는 경북대학교 의학과 컴퓨터공학 교수의 공동 연구를 통해 쌓은 기술과 경험을 바탕으로 2021년에 창업해 유망기술 창업 지원 등 정부 지원과 대구시의 ‘소프트웨어 의료기기 특화지원사업’을 통해 ‘캐디-B(CadAI-B)’ 개발에 성공했고, 내년 상반기에 임상시험을 거쳐 인허가를 받을 예정이다. 

이승대 대구시 혁신성장실장은 “이번 혁신의료기기 지정을 시발점으로 지역의 의료기업의 제품이 혁신의료기기로 지정받을 수 있도록 R&D부터 투자유치까지 체계적인 지원 시스템을 마련해 글로벌 선도기업 발굴·육성에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
