31일 군에 따르면 최근, 주방용 오물분쇄기의 회수통 및 회수 거름망을 제거한 뒤, 음식물 찌꺼기를 그대로 하수관에 배출하는 가구가 늘어나면서 이러한 문제가 심화되고 있다.

주방용 오물분쇄기의 인증 제품은 음식물 찌꺼기의 80% 이상을 회수하고, 20% 미만의 찌꺼기만 배출할 수 있도록 설계된 제품이다. 그러나, 이를 임의로 개조하거나 음식물 찌꺼기 회수 장치 및 거름망을 제거한 후 주방 오수관에 직접 연결하여 사용하는 행위는 불법이며, 이를 엄격히 금지하고 있다.

불법 주방용 오물분쇄기를 사용할 경우, 음식물 찌꺼기와 기름때가 하수관에 쌓여 아파트 단지 내 악취와 오수 역류 문제를 야기할 수 있다. 특히, 저층(1~2층) 세대에 피해가 집중되며, 나아가 공공하수처리장 운영에도 심각한 지장을 초래하여 하천 수질오염 등 막대한 환경적 피해를 유발한다.

최근에는 인증받지 않은 불법 제품을 판매하거나 인증 제품을 불법 개조하여 사용하는 사례가 증가하고 있다. 이러한 불법 행위와 관련하여, 불법 제품을 판매한 자는 2년 이하의 징역 또는 2,000만 원 이하의 벌금에 처할 수 있으며, 사용자에게는 100만 원 이하의 과태료가 부과될 수 있으니 주의가 필요하다.
